Well - having watched that I've come to one conclusion.
Will Self is a pompous arrogant twat.

or was he sending himself up to portray the type of character that the KP character wouldn't like?
for me, there's too much stretching credibility for KP to be as un-knowing as he is represented. But it did make me laugh a few times.
It was quite subtle. Threw in his vacuuming the fridge gag. Funniest part was Pilkington's exit from Self's home; something about washing him with soap. Hoped for a bit more to be honest.

Never liked him much myself. Wouldn't have gone that far previously, but no, he didn't come across very well.
(Oh yeah, I felt quite disappointed with the show too.)
I thought it was fantastic. It was just as I imagined it would be.
And I think Will was mostly playing a part. But not entirely.
I liked Germaine Greer's kitchen.
I used to listen to Ricky Gervais on XFM a few years ago when I think he first "used" Karl.
I had doubts then but it just seemed so real and then watching the programme tonight I feel that he's not playing a part. It is a bit of exploitation I think but I agree you don't need to be clever to be happy.
I'm sorry if it was billed as a comedy.
I laughed all the way through.
But it was filmed as more of a documentary.
I just loved it.
'I feel that he's not playing a part'.
Come on. He pushed the door marked 'pull' twice on leaving the mensa test. I've got a bloody Christmas card with that gag on it.
He just has a good angle and the backing of Ricky Gervais et al.
please don't think I'm pulling a KP here but is he just a character or is he really an idiot?... I know he was introduced during a podcast but I never listened to it... I saw him in some extras on a ricky gervais stand up DVD which was very funny hence why I watched him last night.
I think its a very good act
If it isn't an act then the person being laughed at is ... Oh, Gawd, I can hear the locking and loading of shotgun barrels.
He's not just appeared out of nowhere, he's been on the radio every week for years and years.
He certainly isn't genius enough to keep up an act that perfectly for that long.
He does exaggerate it slightly now and again, but it's at least 95% real. In my (correct) opinion.
I enjoyed it and there were some really funny moments. All a bit strange though - part comedy, part documentary, part spoof(?). I spent too much time analysing who was in on the joke and who wasn't. Maybe some of them, all of them or none of them.
Would like to see more of this though. I just need to chill out and enjoy these things a bit more than I should!
Character or not - the XFM stuff is brilliant. His stories from when he was growing up are simply hilarious. The horse in his neighbours house, the fact he had to play on his friends Spectrum through the bedroom window, the marrow in the pram with a face on it.
I might have to work through my archive and have another listen.
I enjoyed it, I think Will Self was playing up a bit on purpose.
