Like we're Earthians rather than Humans... Unimpressed

Actually most Science-Fiction stories call us Terrans after the latin name for Earth; Terra

Well that's just stupid.

Do you have any positive comments about the new series? I get the feeling you're not impressed so far.

I think this series has opened pretty well in comparison to earlier New Who, although the last episode often left me dissatisfied.

The drama certainly hasn't been compromised anyway, she's been superb so far.

Yes she's been fine, so wouldn't it have been a shame if we had missed out on her just because she'd been wee and dumpy?

I disagree with your assertion that Moffat was joking; he pressed the point home by saying how tall and sexy she actually was. It's clearly very important to him that she should look sexy, and I remember RTD talking about how keen Mr Moffat was to keep Georgia Moffett's character (the Doctor's daughter) alive, with the strong implication that he wanted to keep such a sexy girl involved. The man wants it sexy!

Some of us find wee and dumpy sexy.

EDIT: Just realised that sounded a bit scatological...

The exception being Bernard Cribbins.

True, but you couldn't have him every week.

I'm right behind him! :D

A small coninuity error understandable in such a compact episode.

Maybe it wasn't recorded and the machinery devised it, it's self from recordings of her?

I like Dr Who bud boy does it look cheap!

Wasn't it recorded while she was seeing all the bad stuff, which she then chose to forget, thus forgetting doing the message too?

Quote: Kevin Murphy @ April 11 2010, 11:07 AM BST

Just before she hit the Forget button, I would imagine.

:D Like that!

Among past assistants Lalla Ward might perhaps be described by an unkind observer as "wee and dumpy", but yes I do not see height as an advantage or object to curves.

It is a bit like my reaction to the old film The Truth About Cats and Dogs, which I struggled with on the grounds that Uma Thurman does nothing for me, but I quite fancied Jeananne Garofolo.

Maybe we have a different picture of dumpy, dumpy to me means shaped like a potatoe, which Lalla Ward certainly wasn't! :D

I do not think Karen Gillan could be mistaken for a root vegetable by anyone, so perhaps Steven Moffat is the one with a different idea of dumpy. (I am reminded of the studio executive who objected to the casting of Isabelle Huppert in Heaven's Gate because of her supposed potatoness.)

Maybe she was wearing a fat suit. And standing in a hole. Or sporting a puffa jacket. Or he was exaggerating for comic effect.

And I bet Billie Piper wouldn't have got the job, had her first name been Maris.

Definitely this.

And back on topic - Moffat is also on record saying of Karen Gillan, "Funny, clever and gorgeous and sexy - or Scottish - which is the quick way of saying it."

Yeah, that was a funny line. Funny as in made me laugh, not controversial.
