Anyone done one?
I may be up for a novel to TV series adaption.
Not done one before and I was wondering if there was any advice to be had.
Mainly so I don't sound like a dick in the meeting.

William Goldman favours the highlighter pen.
Might be more impressive in the meeting if you you remember it is "adaptation".

Yeah, I thought that too.
How about watching the Nicolas Cage movie until it sinks in?
Just say 'Well, I'll copy the f**king book, won't I?' stub a fag out in some ones eye and walk out. You'll get the gig.

Bugger me!
I honestly didn't know that!
I've been calling it 'adaption' for years.
Thank-you. Thank-you.
Will take the highlighter pen and fag-butt ideas on board.
read the book and think about it in terms of what works visually and what elements of story are anachronistic.
can it be improved in terms of story and structure
look at some other adaptations, read books and watch films: Slumdog would be a good one. The movie was a massive change from the book.
watch DVD commentaries of adaptations from director/writer/producer
never done one but that's what I'd do if I had a meeting about doing one.
Is it Hard Evidence?
I converted a screenplay into a stage play, and that was a bastard. Learned loads though.
I'd imagine the budget would dictate what you can or can't do with it - but all the very best!

That's a brilliant movie, of course it is, its a Charlie Kaufman film, and Nicolas Cage is actually good in it!
Sorry to derail.

It is, as a matter of fact.
I'm told the original author is notoriously difficult to work with.
Plus I'm cheaper.

See also Leaving Las Vegas, Matchstick Men, Red Rock West, Wild at Heart, Raising Arizone and, my personal favourite, Vampire's Kiss.

First definitely true, the second doubtful!
I'm adapting a script into a short story/novel at the moment but due to the way I wrote the script, with lots of description it's not proving to be that difficult of a job although I am only on chapter three.

Watership Down springs to my mind.
