What are you listening to now? Page 771

Nothing original there to my ears - the heavily reverbed female indy sound was perfected by The Sundays, etc in the 80's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlTd2kovk2w&feature=related

Except not all of what I posted had a heavy reverb sound. And The Sundays sound good but I'm not really sure which band you think they sound like out of the five I posted. Because they certainly don't sound anything like The Books or Animal Collective or Air France and the only similarity they share with Dirty Projectors is a female singer.

Also, of course they will all sound unoriginal to your ears if you are determined to believe they are unoriginal. ;)

Nothing original there!? Did you actually listen to it all, or are you just being stubborn? All bands have influences, but that doesn't stop them being original. Those bands ceeeertainly are!

*goes off in a mini-huff*

Yeah I did give each band, a fair hearing. I'm not saying it's NOT good - just not as original as you may think. I do understand what it is to love music but I am too jaded now to see anything fresh. That's my loss not yours :-)

I just dunno how you can be jaded. I've probably not listened to as much music as you have, but I've not exactly listened to a lack of music. My dad at least likes to think he knows a lot about music, and a few of my friends have listened to a ridiculous amount of music, and are still obsessed when they find something which sounds as new as the kind of stuff above.

You gave me a mix of sounds and I truly don't have the desire to dig through archives of music and tell you who each one sounds like. I'm not trying to create a posture to which I am determined to remain unmovable. I am not being stubborn nor intransigent - I just don't hear anything original there - it is just an opinion and not one you should feel threatened by. :-)

*sigh* Oh well. Lyrics are what I always find most original. LC!<3

I used to be in love with music - I was in bands from 16-28, I even spent £10k on a home recording studio in 2002 and did nothing but make music for a whole year ... but about 3 years ago I suddenly, and abruptly, stopped listening to it. No idea why - I just fell out of love with it.

Dirty Projectors.

They're headlining a small festival I'll be attending in Oklahoma in two weeks.

Quote: PhQnix @ April 9 2010, 8:15 PM BST

Air France - Swedish balearic pop music.

Asobi Seksu - Half Japanese half American pop-shoegaze sound.

Animal Collective - Animal Collective-type sound.

The Books Couple of guys who mix acoustic guitar and samples.

Dirty Projectors.

And so on and so on.

I must be getting old, I've never even heard of any of those bands! What on Earth is pop-shoegaze?

What on Earth is pop-shoegaze?

It's the niche box they give them in order to be elitist at the expense of originality ;-)

that's gonna come back to bite me in the butt

I do feel threatened by it! I don't want to end up jaded with music!

Awesome. Who else is playing?

Don't worry, AngieBaby! Most people I know haven't heard of them either. Pop-shoegaze is a term I just made up! :D

Yep. It's not - it was just a way to pigeon-hole them because without a description of some kind things are more easily dismissed. Besides. Means they are poppy and gaze at their shoes.

Nobody too exciting. It's just a small fest that happens to be taking place while I'm visiting the ex-girlfriend.

Hey, just because I caught something bad - don't mean it's contagious
