Are they going to repeat this before next week anywhere -I'd quite like to give it a second viewing? Could watch it on iPlayer but would rather not!
Doctor Who... Page 412
It was on BBC Three yesterday!
Yeah but I don't have a Tardis chip
Found one on Friday at nine I guess that will have to do.

I imagine you in an a Morgan. With the top down.

Crikey spring is in the air.
Helloooo. Waves cheerily as he drives past!

I got it on catch-up TV, why not pop over and have a look. I'm just there, down the road, turn left, and then an indeterminate quantity of miles on the motorway.
Quote: Matthew Stott @ April 5 2010, 10:47 PM BSTWhat d'you mean? I was just saying that a lot of the episodes that have been highly praised by people who slagged off RTD had actually been worked on quite a bit by him. It's probably not so good for RTD, as because his name wasn't on them, he doesn't get any real credit for episodes like Dalek, or Human Nature.
Have you read the original draft of Dalek, Matthew? RTD's rewrite was a def improvement.
As a prelude to the first Moffat episode I watched the last RTD two-parter on iPlayer and I have to say it was f**king terrible.
Somebody seemed to have mixed up the Master with Hannibal Lecter, having him gagged and strapped down to stop him eating people and then giving him a whole roast chicken (without the trimmings) to chow down on. The Superman 2 Zod-like shooting up in the air was preposterous. As was the Doctor surviving the fall from the spaceship.
I also thought the regeneration was overly drawn out, the Star Wars homages tedious and indulgent and don't get me started on the pick-up scene with Capt. Jack. The worthiness of the show is incredible. I've only seen about 25% of the revived series but three of the assistants appear to be in mixed race relationships, which feels more like an attempt at social programming than an accurate reflection.

Yup.
Nothing wrong with that, unless it looks preachy. Which it did, constantly.
Drama first, preaching second. This should be in the charter.
More importantly, the later Tennant episodes were in the most part total tripe, which is inexcusable considering they had time and money to throw. It all got a bit self indulgent. For me the first episode of the new series was still recognisably the same series despite having a different cast but it managed to be more entertaining, more sci-fi and more goddam fun. Of all the extended length episodes since the series returned, this one was the best. There were bits I didn't like but so what? On the whole it was a big improvement from recent Who which can only be a good sign for the series. There will be shit episodes from time to time I expect but for me the whole series seems refreshed again from its recent torpid and self indulgent state.

I totally deadpan-honestly don't recognise any of those three points. Certainly not the point on being 'more sci-fi'.

I mean more sci fi in its plotting and resolution as opposed to the use of 'magic' that we had been given too often under the old regime. Sci fi in the style of The Twilight Zone rather than special effects.

It was hugely encouraging that The Doctor should triumph by using his intelligence and limited resources, rather than (yes) magic and deus ex machina.
