Aw!
I would like some squirrels please.
But we totally don't have a squirrely garden at the moment.

Damn those nasty bastard magpies though! This week they attacked the blackbirds who were nesting at the bottom of my garden, causing them to flee. (Nobody tell them about the robins nesting behind the shed, OK?)
We have some squirrels! I will donate a squirrel family to you, zooo!
Woooo!
Squirrels are rats with better dress sense.
My son called from a cinema a few minutes ago to report an earthquake in Los Angeles. He's visiting friends for a few days and said it shook pretty good. Judging from my daughter's Facebook status she's ok, too. Gotta love the Internet.
Looks like a 6.9 just south of the border in Mexico. That'll probably kill some people.
Oh dear. Still, not the "big one" then.

No, but it's as strong as the 1989 quake that killed dozens in Oakland and stronger than the 1994 quake that caused major damage and loss of life in Los Angeles. Hopefully Mexico will be luckier because the area isn't as densely populated. But their construction standards leave a lot to be desired ...
It'll be much more interesting when the supervolcano under Yellowstone blows.

I probably won't live long enough to even know what happened. You, on the other hand, will probably have a few months of freezing temperatures and slow starvation to look forward to.
The quake has been upgraded to a 7.2. That's a hell of a shaker.
I'm glad I no longer live in southern California. I hated the unexpected shaking.
Ground movement in Mexicali:
Gosh. Is it just me (or coincidence) or does the world seem to be experiencing a general increase in major seismic activity in the last year? Or is it just that the major quakes have impacted on populated land areas more than usual?
The planet is seismically active and quakes like this happen fairly frequently. I guess it's possible that certain sections of some faults are more active recently. If pressure is relieved in one spot, sometimes it means that pressure builds up somewhere else.
I'm glad I live in a rather seismically stable area. Hurricanes and floods and tornadoes give minutes, hours or days of warning, but there's nothing creepier than when the ground starts to jump around beneath your feet.
Quote: Nogget @ April 4 2010, 9:35 PM BSTI'm wondering if my 500mA 9v AC adapter will blow up a device that requires 300mA
Provided that the device needs 9 volts it will take whatever current 300ma from the power supply and neither will be damaged.
The 500mA marking on the power supply (AC adapter) indicates the MAXIMUM current that it is designed to supply.
Excess volts from a power supply will damage a device designed for lower voltage.
i.e a 9 volt power supply will probably damage a 6 volt device.
