Idiotic? Hardly that, whether you liked it or not.

Cribbins is awesome. Fact.

A mouldering collection of cliches that would have embarassed StNG on an off episode.
Ugly special effects and just nasty.
The only good bit was them having to delay the escape to get enough food.
Some thoughts on this:
Matt Smith was much better than expected, a far more interesting choice than Tennant (and probably a better actor). The show's obsession with younger and younger doctors is somewhat unimaginative but that's hardly the fault of Smith. Actually when he togged up in his professional suit and bowtie he seemed more the true heir of earlier doctors like Troughton than more modern ones.
Amy Pond was worth watching.
The villian seemed a tired Alien clone.
The dialogue was too knowing and self-consciously clever, but this is true of the previous series as well as much else on TV.
Music was uninspired.
All in all, fairly good entertainment.
Yep! I thought it looked like Alien too.

... I'm seriously worried about some of you people.
If you like his style of Doctor better than Tennant's that's fine.
But if you're saying that having seen a selection of Tennant's work, and a selection of Smith's, well. I despair!

I agree. I do think some people were genuinely worried about Smith, but the fact he was more than able has escalated people's perception of him. He was very good, has loads of potential, but Tennant is still a better Doctor, purely because we don't know Smith's Doctor yet, we've only seen him for just over an hour. People are going way overboard. Viva La Tennant!

Smith so far has been excellent, yes, but this is a strange statement.

Hardly an obsession; Moffat is on record as saying he wanted an older Doctor, but unfortunately Smith came in and nailed the part, so he had no choice but to go with the best man, no matter what his age.

Initial niggles about his age aside, I found that worry very odd; did people thik they would pick a shit actor? Weird.

Yup, his clothes were much more like a sixties/seventies Doc than a modern series one. I likey. The braces are definitely a nod towards Troughton; the Doctor Smith has cited several times as his favourite.

...Scotland???!!
What about it? The episode wasn't set in Scotland, but Amy herself was Scottish!
The Doctor is dead.
Long live the Doctor.

Excuse me?
Everytime I say the words "Bowie Base One" I dry retch. Bowie Base One. Just the idea that David Bowie is a touchstone in the lives of space scientists...

Quote: Mickeza @ April 4 2010, 2:45 PM BSTIt was great, but let's calm ourselves. The lack of respect RTD gets is remarkable.
This episode benefited from *lacking* certain qualities which RTD brought to the show, like over-sentimentality, and plots which make no sense.
Quote: Aaron @ April 4 2010, 3:08 PM BSTYou expect them to say that they dressed skimpily to give 8-year old boys the horn?
I most certainly do. These days, in Australia at least, there seems to be a belief that children are asexual beings, who must not be exposed to sexy images.

This episode had an enemy which seemingly just stood around doing bugger all, except chasing people around while baring it's dodgy teeth. It was another save the world episode, which RTD got slammed for, and the Doctor get's an enemy to run away just by showing them his previous actions, where have we seen that before? The reveals were obvious, and the story itself was quite weak, but let's ignore all this just because RTD didn't write it. Now I really enjoyed the episode because it was a whole lot of fun, a great introductory episode, but I also enjoyed the first Martha episode on the moon, the writing was just as good in that, and guess who wrote it? Yes, that hopeless plodder Russel T Davies.
Doctor Poo more like.
