That said Timelords don't have cocks, being woven on the genetic looms of Gallifrey and all that.

Really? That makes sense, otherwise one of the first things you'd see The Doctor do after he regenerates is to have a good look down below to see what size he's been given this time.

As Timelords are called Timelords and not Gallifreyans does this imply they aren't natives? Are Timelords the futuristic equivalent of gypsy travellers?

Unfortunately 'Timelord' does sound a tiny bit too much like 'Gaylord', the popular homophobic playground taunt of the 1970s and 80s.

What kind of underwear do timelords wear? I imagine the Tom Baker doc to be wearing a full red unionsuit...

I think Tom Baker probably went commando. Cool

Yeah, you're probably right...

But when you were a small child, your dad probably didn't watch it, as it was a kids' TV show. Now it's a mass-audience family deal, and the dads watch it because they loved it when they were kids.

Sure it was predominantly a kids' show, but the cast and crew (Barry Letts, Terrance Dicks, Katy Manning, Peter Davison, Janet Fielding, etc) from 1970s and '80s Doctor Who often mention that female companions were dressed in revealing outfits "for the dads". My point is simply that these sexy companions in their outfits did not go unappreciated by young boys watching the show.

Leela was a bit of a slapper, but had the leather thing going on and showed a lot of thigh.

I would have been about six or seven years old when first captivated by Leela, though the tingling arousal abruptly ceased when her hair was permed in one (or more?) episode(s) and she traded her 'skins' for period costumes. And when Louise Jameson finally shed her clothes in Tenko I remember feeling terribly disappointed. I'm even more disappointed to discover I have joined the ranks of losers who post about the sexiest Doctor Who companions. Losers.

Wow. Now I have an inner conflict...do I stay excited for when it airs here in a couple weeks or do I dread the new series' arrival??

What d'you mean? It's been mostly good stuff said on here so far!

One annoying thing, I wish they'd put it back at its proper time, seven, and wouldn't change the time around so much. The fact is, it gets higher viewing figures when it starts at its proper time, not so early, so it seems a very odd thing for the BBC to do. Twenty past six is not a great start time.

Don't forget the bollocks titles.

The title sequence was very bad.

Don't forget the bollocks titles.

I didn't like the theme tune, but if that's the worst thing about an episode, then that's alright by me.

I do like the way each time they refine how the Tardis flys through wormholes.

Matt Smith in interviews is genuinely painful to watch. He comes across as such a massive tool, and one who neither knows nor cares about the series at all.

No he's not. Calling him a "massive tool" is nasty and uncalled for. I've met him and he's a complete gent as far as I'm concerned, certainly more likeable than Tennant. Also, saying he doesn't care about the series at all is complete nonsense - he's just as dedicated and enthusiastic about the show as Tennant was, if not more.

The plot was a bit crap. Obviously it wasn't going to be a full-on sci-fi dealie as they had to introduce the new Doctor, set him up, and find his assistant - but it was hard to folllow the logic of what the Doctor was doing at times.

The plot was fine but could have been better, however like you say it was only intended to set up the series/new doctor/companion really. Later episodes will be much better I'm sure.

Stepping through the vision of the old Doctors at the end, God, barf-enducingly cringeworthy. Keep that kind of thing to CBBC.

That was the best part of the episode and the moment where he became The Doctor for me. He actually stepped through it just as Tennant's face was fading, which was just perfect.

Overall: roughly what I'd expected. Perhaps future episodes will benefit from plotting and whatnot, but as a stand-alone episode it was quite a step down from most others of the recent series.

Were we really watching the same show...?? It was MUCH better than any of the Russell T Davies episodes. You're definitely in the small minority having not liked the episode, there has been very positive comments all over Twitter, Facebook, Digital Spy and the Doctor Who forums themselves. I thought it was brilliant.
