I don't mind if the are big fans or not, but I did find Catherine Tate's antipathy toward the whole genre difficult to stomach.

Didn't bother me, she delivered the goods on screen, that's all that matters, I don't mind if she doesn't have Colin Bakers face tattoed on her left buttock.
It just bugs me.
I can't always separate the person from the character. And if I know the guy playing the Doctor couldn't care less about it, it ruins any kind of authority the character should have.
Some roles shouldn't just be 'another acting job'.

I get what you mean, yeah. From what I've heard from Smith, he has fully embraced the thing, he's even written his own Who stories as a way of getting ready for the part! I think he may be the most genuinely eccentric actor to take on the role since it's return.

Okay, these things are good.
Moffat's on Radio 4's Front Row tomorrow talking about taking over the reigns on Doctor Who. It'll probably be more illuminating than the recent rash of Matt Smith interviews.
Ok so far hitting the annoying button pretty high, especially the bloody music.
Just said timey wimey and wibbly wobberly.
Grrr.
I am going to chance my neck on this thread of obsessive geekery and say "I enjoyed that."
Not a Who aficionado, but that was pretty decent hour's worth of entertaining telly. The 'coming back years later' twist was a bit predictable and they dragged out the reveal too long. The story proper wasn't brilliant and the plot ran short, but it was a decent distraction and had some really nice touches. Matt Smith seems more than capable as an actor and as the Doctor.
The only downside for me was seeing the trailer segment at the end - almost inevitably featuring James Corden. Also, isn't it a bit treading old ground to have the Doctor's new female assistant leave "real life" on the eve of her wedding - just to set up the inevitable tearful scene when she leaves the Doctor as her tenure on the show ends?
For an intro episode it was great.
There was a lot to cram in but it certainly whetted the appetite.
Pretty good and Matt Smith is a definite improvement.
As is a proper sexy assisstant.
