I try to save them in a shoebox with some shredded paper in.

Poof.

No, that's even crueler.

Poof.

I'd even try to save you, John, if I found you injured on my back doorstep!

*mmm. Under what interesting circumstance might I end up, injured, on Chip's back doorstep. And I said back doorstop, and not back passage*

I DO LET THEM GO YOU SILLY TART! THE SHOEBOX IS THE CASUALTY DEPARTMENT UNTIL THEY RECOVER! :P

Ah okay then. :)

Sorry, I was wrong!
I had believed someone who insisted that it was true, but I've just written to DEFRA to clarify the situation:
"Hello,
I've been told that if I catch a mouse in the house, I can't release it
outside.
Is this true?"

They answered with:
'This is not true unless it's non-native species mouse.'

However, since they've only replied with a single sentence, there are still questions.

Ha Nogget, had that been bugging you all day?

Edit: Bugging you all that hour?

Yes, but it's still bugging me, because the DEFRA reply was so brief.
The guy that insisted it was true clearly had grounds for believing it, and I'd like to know what it was.

Well surely they explained it fine. Maybe your friend meant non-native species of mice.

Although I couldn't tell the difference between a French and a British mouse.

But they didn't give any guidelines. What do you do with non-native species? Repatriate them? What if you catch a rat? Why didn't they provide a link (which I specifically asked for)? I don't want to believe one person's opinion without further proof, I've already done that once. I know this person works for DEFRA, but still I want to be sure.

He probably mis-heard or misunderstood something he heard on a TV programme.

Are you having some sort of breakdown?
Should we send someone? :P

Does it matter? It's not like they could police such a law.
