Thanks Maj. I'll make some enquiries of the venue.
The play's not written yet - and I haven't booked the vebue - but it will be ready by the end of April (Scriptfrenzy).
I'm planning on staging it at a festival in July or August.
Thanks Maj. I'll make some enquiries of the venue.

If it's background music [CD etc] it should be ok but if it's a song done by one of the characters within the play, that would probably cause problems....for instance Webber has all the rights to Wizard of Oz music and wouldn't allow anyone else to perform them. A lot of the musicals too are not licensed to amateur plays......don't know if yours is a professional production. So it is worthwhile enquiring....let us all know the outcome.
Good luck with your play.

It's actually a Beatles song - the original and a cover version I want to use.
I had a CD as an introduction to one of my plays but it was pub theatre/professional...i.e...equity contracts and had no problem but it's as well to ask.
The pub already had a music license.
