Ah, for the days when every episode of The Bill consisted of Burnside and the rest of CID trying to catch a villain, only for uniform to nick said villain for some minor motoring offence or other.

Then there would be a scene where one of CID would overhear a couple of plods talking about the villain: "Hang on Reg, did you just say 'John McBurglar'?" "Yes guv, we got him in the cells now!". End of episode. It worked and it filled half an hour.

Sums up the show rather well.

I actually watched The Bill on Thursday and this was near enough the plot.
