Amazon was the cheapest I found it, with free next day delivery.
The menu is very basic with simple folder browsing indexing. But it's not as bad as I imagined and it responds quite quickly too.

I don't think so. As Bill said, you probably need a router to use more than one PC with what I assume is the single IP address handed to you by your ISP.
Not familiar with your modem, but they don't typically offer any sort of firewall protection. Scary!

I'm pretty sure that you need a device loosely called a cable router (an Ethernet Router) in between the cable modem and the home plug it feeds. The firmware in the router has the facility to recognise more than one Ethernet Machine Address on the LAN side.
A proper router of this type will have one RJ45 Ethernet socket called a WAN (Wide Area Network) which you connect to your Virgin Modem. And it will have one (or 4 ) RJ45 Ethernet sockets called LAN (local Area Network.). Such routers in big expensive form are the nodes of the Internet, youonly need a little one. Alas there seems to be not much demand for it in its simplest form and I haven't located one on a quick search.
What is available is such a router with Wireless Access Point built in as well, normally used when you have one computer near your Virgin Modem and other computers accessing via WiFi. For that you plug WAN socket into Virgin modem, then the nearby computer into one of the LAN sockets and configure the WIreless so that the other computers connect that way. You could use one of those and ignore the Wireless (or configure it OFF). Make sure it is one that has a WAN Ethernet socket & not an ADSL modem built in.
You connect its WAN Socket to the Virgin modem and one of its LAN sockets to the Homeplug.
Try it and see if that works.

I added something about using a redundant old ADSL ruter, but something DaButt said made me realise that won't work, so I've removed that bit from my message.
As DaButt says, the Virgin Modem does not have any firewall inside, but adding a cable router will provide firewall and the necessary NAT (network address Translation) capability which enables your public IP address from Virgin to be subdivided into local IP addresses for multiple computers .

Very poor technical info on that wbsite, but yes, that looks like a better option, because it has Wireles N the neww high speed stuff, should you ever want to use WiFi instead of Homeplug.
And the firm Linksys nowadays belongs to Cisco, makers of many of the worlds best big routers.
Not so much 'poor' technical info as 'non-existant'.
