Speaking of the World Cup, which one was your favourite? Mine has to be the first one I ever watched, which was Mexico '86. I don't think there has ever been another World Cup that has featured so many great players. It seemed like every team in the competition had at least one Superstar in their ranks. Argentina had Maradona, Brazil had Zico, Denmark had Laudrup, England had Lineker, France had Platini, Germany had Rumenegga, Mexico had Sanchez, Uruguay had Francescoli, etc. Scotland would've had Dalgleish, as he was named in the squad, but he got injured in the '86 FA Cup Final, against Everton, when he was Player-Manager of Liverpool, so he missed it.

Hmm, toss up between 1970, 78 and 90 for me. In 1970 England had a better team than their 66 one and played some stylish football, but that second half against Germany - Banks was ill with Montezuma's revenge I believe, and that numtie Bonetti made a 2-0 half time lead into a 2-3 loss!! Then ofcourse there was the best Brazil team of all time, who deservedly won the cup.
1978 was without England, but Scotland had one amazing game, with that Gemmill goal. There were a lot of long range shots flying in and Holland were the best side there, but got beaten by hosts Argentina in final.
1990, the Gazza world cup, where he created chance after chance but ended up in tears. Them bloomin krauts again!
F**king hell.. Apparently if Messi wins the world cup he'll be the greatest player of all time...
Tut Tut

Probably France 98. Italia 90 was alright, I was only 6 or 7 at the time and not hugely into football. USA94 was a radio event because the TV broke down and we didn't get one until the month after. South Korea kind of ruined 2002 with all those suspicious decisions going in their favour, but from a betting sense, I made loads of money on first goalscorers.
To be brutally honest, I've always preferred the Euro's.

A competition England stands a chance of winning and Wales stands a chance of qualifying... at least until the second game of the qualifiers.
Another win for the Toffees tonight. Looks like we'll be finishing above Liverpool. It's just a shame that we won't be pipping them to the last Champions' League spot. Then again, when we did do just that, at the end of the '04/'05 season, they still got to compete in the competition the following season, because they were the holders of the trophy, after having beaten Milan in Istanbul.

So, Utaka will have to try to struggle by this week with only £78,500.

I reckon Everton wouldve got fourth had they had a better start to the season..
They'll probably get it if City don't manage to buy a team that can play together next season.
Quote: PhQnix @ March 18 2010, 7:57 PM GMTMoving away from the Champions League for a second (trust me there are other games being played) did anyone else just watch Fulham? Clint Dempsey scored an amazing goal to send them through against Juventus.
I was at the game. It was bloody amazing. Best atmosphere I've ever experienced while cottaging down the Cottage. Had a rush of blood to the head and booked my flights and everything for the away game to Wolfsburg. Can't really afford it, but it might very well be my last chance to see Fulham in Europe, so why the devil not.
With not long to go till world cup squad announcement, who do people think will be NOT be in it? I do not see Capello picking Joe Cole, Ashley Young, Micah Richards or David Bentley and all would be in my squad.
Joe Cole should definitely be picked; he's arguably England's most creative player. I'm not bothered about the other three.
Well played Chelsea. On reflection, you edged it today.
Jagielka might miss out, because he was injured for so long. Owen Hargreves is obviously going to miss out as well, which is a shame, because he's a great player.

As they always say, the most important time to score 5 goals is in the second half
