Skit Comp change? Page 5

How about two tables running concurrently? (The all time scoreboard and this season's table - a season being six months long.)

I like that suggestion, although it's a bit of admin for Michael.

Perhaps we could tie it into the podcast project? If your sketch wins you go through automatically, it might also encourage some who don't normally enter the comp to have a go?

Not that it's any of my business (never stopped me before...) but surely the whole point of the weekly skit comp is really to challenge comedy writing members to come up with material based on suggestion, to a deadline, for the critique of others? I would have thought it's main benefit is as a useful writing exercise, with any competition element just for a bit of fun?

Or have I misread the situation?

I agree, but it isn't really a place where people give critique, so you don't necessarily learn much other than certain people like certain things and others don't.

As Brucie says: "Points mean punch-ups."

There is no critique in the comp, just votes for which sketch (or song, poem, whatever) you think is the best.

It's like that leader board ladder-thing on 4Laughs. It was unfair and redundant unless everyone joins at the same time.

I seem to remember being in and around the top spots most of the time. *lights up a fag and inhales smugly whilst stroking his 4Laughs mug*

Ha! Well I joined up ages after and only had about 6 points (in fact Marc P and I shared a rung on the ladder) and then it closed down. I didn't like the way it was a 'ladder' and supposedly indicated that that some people were better than others, yet there was no chance you could catch up with anyone who'd been posting stuff on it for ages.

I really like that idea. This would definitely give more people an incintive to enter and your time spent writing the sketch could have a major pay off by being part of the podcast.

Although it would restrict it to just writing radio sketches.

The Slaggs were only there for the last 7-8 months and we crept in to 9th but we were sleeping with the right people. They were all catatonics so sadly it was just sleeping.
:)
But agree with DD in that I would've been glad to ditch the ladder even when we did creep onto it, mainly because the competitive side of it was becoming too 'competitive' - that is we were creating things specifically to climb the ladder, rather than concentrating on what we wanted to create. If that makes sense? So after they began talking about ditching the ladder I was in the 'ditch it' camp.

Hey everyone, thanx for commenting!
The skit comp is really just a nice way to generate ideas and enjoy writing. I don't think anyone considers it a CV point, it's just fun. Given the response though how do we wanna continue?

Nice to see a few newcomers this week. I liked Otterfoxes suggestion, and Gerrys was good.
But my vote goes to Badge with his 'leave things just the way they are' entry, with a special mention to Scratchyr.
:D

The Skit Comp provides me with an occasional distraction and a few moments of amusement. I participate for the fun of it, not for the Q dos. Who cares if long termers've got a head start, it's a bit of fun, not a sodding race for glory. The only change I'd make would be to let me vote for myself. AND being 6'4" I should also score points for being the 'height' of comedy (or have they raised the bar?)

Laughing out loud

Good stuff all round. We'll wait a week then decide how to organise. Enjoy the forums...
