Has anyone ever had anything accepted by the BBC writers room?
I sent a radio sitcom off a few weeks ago and popped out today to buy a Lamborghini on the basis of my sure success.
I'm just trying to quantify the liklihood I've been a bit rash.

The Writersroom always seem to suggest they look for writers not scripts. But they will probably take you on to their writing team, so that purchase was a wise one.

Yeah. They pick up good writers.

And ignore a few good writers too... *sniffs*
It seems you're more likely to get noticed for drama though, I think.

I hear you brother! *weeps*
I only sent something once, the first comedy I ever wrote. Which was shit.

Or for being a drama queen. I suggest phoning them up every day asking when they're going to read your script. They like that, dealing with histrionic, precious writers.

The only script I ever sent them (also my first ever sitcom script) was summarily dismissed with little comment. The very same script landed me a meeting with Ash Atalla...
In the words of Partridge, "Needless to say, I had the last laugh".

Phone? Didn't think of that.
I'm parked outside their office.

Awesome stuff! Did anything come out of that meeting?

I got to see his BAFTAs, British Comedy Awards, Office memorabilia and his wheelchair (as pushed by TV's Ricky Gervais)...
Nothing so far (nearly 3 years on) came from that meeting, but he was very nice and gave me some good one-on-one time with some very helpful advice. (I wrote some material for an (as yet and I probably never to be produced) sketch show). Meeting him opened some other doors though. Every contact is worthwhile, just often not in the way you expect.
Did you get to try his Fez on?

I wasn't that desperate for a job.
It's probably for the comedy good that he didn't choose my show to develop, otherwise we might not have ever had Clone. (Further advice to Pumpkin, remember the best way to handle the inevitable rejections you experience as a writer is to become a deeply bitter and misanthropic person.)

So what kind of stuff have people had accepted? Film? TV comedy? Radio comedy?
