Bellamy's People Page 12

Another good episode. Good to see more Baal.

Wonder what the viewing figures are like for this? It doesn't seem to spark much debate round these parts, so I'm guessing not great.

Simon Day is an utter delight in this. Much underrated in the comedy world in my opinion.

He's good in the Sarah Millican thing. She must be congratulating herself, getting Simon Day and Mark Heap to act for her.

Very true, and also much kudos to Felix Dexter, he plays several very different roles in this and is spot on, very good and very funny.

I reckon the first couple of "meandering" episodes (in your words, Chip) may have put a fair few people off. Shame.

I watched the first couple and thought them OK. Not enough to go out of my way to watch it regularly though.

I'm going to take a gamble. My money is they pitched a series of 6 themed shows and BBC Two liked what they saw early on so asked for two more. Hence a meandering first episode and a more enjoyable (but still unfocussed) round-up finale. The themed episodes work very well - more of those please.

I've just realised that Nibsy Nibbs 'The Nibster' is a bit simialar to this character Charlie Higson played in these deleted sketches from The Fast Show ('You aint seen these, right?') http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLPYK-nY2Mk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0E4p23xuzs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iu8Lwcx7Iwg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vg_xkIm3kYQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQHdGaMxzxQ

I'm going to take a gamble.

What's in it for us if you lose? Eh?

As for the last episode, I thought it ended largely how it begun. Shapeless, but with a ramshackle charm. There were a couple of cracking moments - the cult leader looking at the camera when sex with his followers under sixteen was discussed, and Simon Day's Cockney gangster losing it at the end - but not enough to make it a classic. I'd love a second series, but less scattershot and with a bit more focus.

Also, I thought Laura Solon might has well have not been in the series she made so little impact. Unimpressed

I grew to love "Bellamy's People" as I think it really matured as it went on.

Simon Day, Felix Dexter and Charlie Higson were the stand out acts, with a special mention to Robert Popper's "Baal" who really should've got more airtime.

I advise anyone who enjoyed the series to check out the "Red Button" extras which feature some very funny exchanges between Bellamy and his director and soundman (who both think he's a cock).

Hope it gets a second series and they concentrate on fewer characters and perhaps give each episode more of a theme.

Not again, chip

I would like to see more of this. More characters, more Baal, more Bellamy trying not to laugh, more Felix Dexter ad-libbing, more Mr Kahn, more Combs sisters, etc.

I notice people haven't really been singing Paul Whitehouse's praises. Having watched the show in fits and starts I thought his characters were the most grating and hackneyed/stale, often reminiscent of characters he's done previously.

Why is this show in 'Satire & Panel Shows'? It's a sketch show first and foremost and doesn't really qualify as social satire... Aaron? Aaron!...?
