British Comedy Guide

Stock footage

I'm looking for public license stock footage. Right now the only place I know to look is the Prelinger archive. Can anyone recommend another source? I need various, fairly specific material including a 1950s car racing through the night, exteriors of an industial estate, a body being stretchered into an ambulance and the interior of a film warehouse.

Bless your cotton hearts.

There's some stuff here http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/comedysoup/assetlibrary-index

but there's not a great choice of video clips and it can only be used (I think) for non-profit making endeavours.

have you tried http://istock.com/

pretty sure they have some video clips

Cheers, but like you say, that stuff aint free if you want to use if for broadcast. Surely we must have something like the Prelinger archive in this country? Some benevolent British collector. Or a public source? Maybe the British Library? I'll look into it.

Thanks, though these are only royalty free sites, you still have to pay hundreds of dollars for the footage. I want something for nothing!

Oh ok sorry, I'm quite a bit in the dark with the legal ins and outs, I shall desist from posting useless URLs. Happy hunting.

This stock is absolutely free...

But is limited mainly to Americana from the '30's-'70s

Lots of links here, several to not just royalty-free clips. Much wading required though.

A few stretchers onto ambulances at http://www.thoughtequity.com/ - and it says "free online download" - whatever that means. It even has 1950s cars going down streets, but the first page (out of 16) of results had no freebies.

Wow, thanks Kenneth, I'll get stuck to this later!

I used some stuff from here for my world famous Frank Sinatra collaboration.
