The Life and Times of Jeremy Spicer Page 12

James why don't you make him a DJ at a university radio station? Write about what you know. Jeremy is convinced he is the next best thing since the Digital radio, he just needs to be discovered. He is doing a performance based degree but never gets the lead parts. It's not because of lack of talent it's to do with who you know etc, just like in the real world. Only it's not even Cambridge and footlights etc, it's at the University of Biggleswade. He can even make small documentary films whoch he sends in for awards but never gets shortlisted. Jeremy Spicer is convinced he is a genius the only trouble is no one else can see it. But he's not downhearted, he's got a few years yet until he is Van Gogh's age... and meanwhile he has still got a complete set of ears!

:D Yep, sounds good.

So just like real life then? ;)

Talk about write what you know I'll properly have to put based on a real life story, mine. I do like the idea a lot actually. I give it a good think over.

That is a kick ass plan Marc I'd go with it Mr Cotter.

:) I think I might.

Laughing out loud Spot on.

:D

It's all true apart from the ears.

Are you talking to me Ronnie? It might be polite to address me by name.

The exquisite corpse.

So you ask me a question without using my name and then you post several times afterwards but don't acknowledge my reply. You need schooling, as Robert Plant used to say.

Errr Apologies if I'm bumping the thread but I've just released a never seen before deleted scene from The Life and Times of Jeremy Spicer involving Jeremy getting very bitter about a BBC Breakfast cup he was given as a leaving present when he was sacked.

I'm writing some new material for the show at the moment and I just wanted to know what people made of this scene as it's a little different to what made it in the episode.

Have you also done a commentary track we could hear?

I'd concentrate on getting everything else right before you start rolling out the extra scenes. This sort of stuff is of interest only to your crew and perhaps a few well-meaning friends. I consider myself a pretty committed comedy fan yet I rarely find time to watch extra material from DVDs - even the ones I absolutely love. I suspect I'm not alone in this. What makes you think, given the masses of quality programming out there, that people are going to devote their precious viewing time to a clip from a newbie's internet serial that was deemed unfit for the cut? You're wasting your time, James. Stop lingering on this and concentrate on writing something new that wins yourself a real audience. Maybe once you've done that you can treat them to some extra scenes.

I concur with the Bussell. I can see more possibilities in this piece. But still the structure is too lose and doesn't really go anywhere. You're improving but I think you need to look at the bigger picture.

I like the clip it's just not edited right. You know... it has a punchline. The logic is getting in the way of the bounce of it.

What do you mean?

I have no idea.

I have no idea.

:D Great!

Seriously though do you mean I should have cut some of the build up and got to the humour a bit quicker. Because I would be interested to know as the scenes I'm writing for Jeremy at the moment are not to dissimilar to this one.

Yes. If I had the clip as a file I would edit it and show you. CUt out the persiflage is the way to go.
