That a standard 9mm? And I want to do some shooting but the nearest I can get to that in my area is clay pigeon shooting with a bunch of twead wearing twats with shotguns.

It's a .40 caliber pistol, 9mm pistols are for girls. ;)

Too bad you can't shoot legally/safely over there. Our big tourist cities like Orlando and Las Vegas are full of shooting ranges for the enjoyment of European and Asian visitors. Some of them will even let you fire fully automatic machine guns. Who needs Disney World ...

But, do you actually use it, or wait for that person to break into your house?

Do you lock it up? Do you keep it "full"?

There are no small children at home, so I'll keep it loaded and out of sight on a high shelf most of the time. I'll probably put on a trigger lock for additional safety while it's stored. Once I buy a few more it'll be time for a nice gun safe.

There are a lot of shooting ranges around here, so I'll probably go every month or so with some friends. Now I won't have to borrow a pistol from them.

I'll probably take a concealed carry course so that I can legally carry it on my person, but I doubt I'll carry it very often. Perhaps when I have to go into the office a 3 in the morning ...

Texas law allows you to carry a gun in your car without a permit, but I'd probably want something smaller to tuck away under the armrest of my vehicle.

But why do you need a gun?

But why do you need a gun?

Because of all the other people with guns probably. They're all tooled up! :D

Of course a .40 calibur, I knew that, duh!

We have safe ways to fire guns but it's a lot more restrictive over here (probably have to go to London to get somewhere near to what you do as usual......)

But why do you need a gun?

Carjackings, breakdowns on deserted roads in the middle of the night, zombie attacks, etc.

I feel very safe without a firearm in most areas of my city, but I'd definitely own one if I lived in Los Angeles. Ironically, the citizens of California are not allowed to carry guns and are therefore at the mercy of the well-armed gangsters and thugs. I know 3 people who have been robbed at gunpoint in L.A. and 2 who were carjacked and kidnapped.

In 1989 myself and some friends found ourselves in a very sketchy neighborhood in Los Angeles before a Rolling Stones - Guns 'n' Roses concert and we were just about to be robbed by 2 scary dudes before my friend flashed the gun he'd been concealing under a towel on his lap.

It's so scary. I couldn't imagine having a gun. I'd end up shooting myself by accident.

Ellie like's Aaron's new "title" of Site Editor. :)

You shouldn't own a firearm if you haven't been trained to use it properly. I used to work with a ditsy woman who managed to shoot off the tip of her own finger one night when someone broke into her home.

TIP: Don't put your finger in front of the barrel while holding a pistol.

Laughing out loud Did they come over all tough looking then saw the gun and just pretended like they were asking for directions?

One guy was already reaching inside the car and his buddy was sneaking around to the other side of the vehicle when my friend showed the Colt .45. Then it was all, "Damn, you crazy white motherf**kers, all we wanted was some money for bus fare!"
