Been on the Guardian Soulmates site. All the women I have exchanged messages with have been interesting and amusing, and I have enjoyed all the dates I have been on (in most cases sufficiently to take it further). If people keep hooking up with freaks and losers I think possibly they should take a look at themselves.

Well this is all making me want to sign back up. Don't think I can face the subscription fee, mind. Bit worried I'll shell out and not find anyone.
I don't think there's any reason to be ashamed of telling people you met your partner on a dating site, either. A couple of people took the piss out of me for signing up but they've been in long-term relationships for years so they don't really understand why anyone would "go to lengths" to find someone. Everyone else just told me they knew someone who'd met their partner that way. A lot of people seem to do it, and they're not all losers or ugly etc. Pretty difficult to meet people any other way as well, I find. Plenty of friends of friends around but none of them are my type (and I'm probably not theirs!)
Right! This thread is making me feel lonely. I go now!

Some of us are.

I doubt it'll take as long as 30 years. They say 20 pubs close down in Britain every day. With no pubs, the internet will be 'the' place to meet potential partners.
F**k 'Ration Books'....we'll be able to bore future generations with stories of pub quizzes, karaoke nights and lock-ins.
For me the big problem with the internet for dating is that you really need to meet somebody to know if you fancy them or not. You can get on like a tyre on fire with somebody online, but you don't know if there's any spark until you've actually been in a room with them.
That's how I feel about you Chip.
Hee. I would pay actual money to be present at the meeting of Ellie and chip.
Actual money? As opposed to monopoly?
Yep!
English coins of the realm.
Woah. Will you pay me?
Depends how entertaining the meeting is.
I'm afraid you'd have to pay upfront before the meeting as there would be no promise of entertainment.

I'll send you my picture next week and you can use it as your avatar!

Ooooh yes. Can I use it for other things too?
