Hi. Saw this on Chortle.
The latest website to be built on user-generated content is offering a rare incentive for comics to upload their material – a shot a $1million top prize.
Clipstar.com is the newest in a string of companies hoping to persuade up-and-coming comedians to place video clips online for free.
But unlike many of the sites springing up in the wake of YouTube’s success, it is offering a big-money competition to reward the most popular clips.
The site, which is currently in its beta test phase, has nine categories, including comedy, music and animation.
Viewers vote for their favourite, and every three months one winner from each category will receive $10,000. All these winners are entered into the final at the end of the year to compete for the $1,000,000.
Voting starts on October 30.
The company has also signed up Dead Ringers impressionist Jon Culshaw to give an introduction to the site, in the guise of Ozzy Osbourne.
Clipstar also says that talent scouts will be scouring the site ‘for the next big thing to hit the entertainment industry’. A spokesman said: ‘Not only will you have the chance to win a fortune, you may be that one step closer to fame.’
