British Comedy Guide

Win £500,000 for your joke.

Hi. Saw this on Chortle.

The latest website to be built on user-generated content is offering a rare incentive for comics to upload their material – a shot a $1million top prize.
Clipstar.com is the newest in a string of companies hoping to persuade up-and-coming comedians to place video clips online for free.

But unlike many of the sites springing up in the wake of YouTube’s success, it is offering a big-money competition to reward the most popular clips.

The site, which is currently in its beta test phase, has nine categories, including comedy, music and animation.

Viewers vote for their favourite, and every three months one winner from each category will receive $10,000. All these winners are entered into the final at the end of the year to compete for the $1,000,000.

Voting starts on October 30.

The company has also signed up Dead Ringers impressionist Jon Culshaw to give an introduction to the site, in the guise of Ozzy Osbourne.

Clipstar also says that talent scouts will be scouring the site ‘for the next big thing to hit the entertainment industry’. A spokesman said: ‘Not only will you have the chance to win a fortune, you may be that one step closer to fame.’

Well, if we can accept that at face value then I reckon that's pretty darn good.

Love those Americans (dollars) I've always said the USA-rse was the greatest!!!

$10,000 dollars and $1,000,000 now that is folding money in any currency...

Cheers, Dolly! :D

all sounds very good but 'sites with prizes' that determine merit by user voting systems are inherently flawed (IMO).....for the producer of said video. Most these sites are visited by fellow producers - human nature, especially if big bucks are involved, decrees that anything half decent will immediately be down voted by other users in order that their own videos stand greater chance of winning. perhaps, or presumably, clipstar have a voting system that prohibits such tactics.

I also suspect those who down vote usually are devoid of any discernible talent.

I have to agree on the voting front. Not only do I not trust it won't be abused and I sometimes think the viewers don't always vote for the best.

The voting issues are inherent as you say, also I reckon the son of the site owner is in with a shot at the top money..

Some big talents will down vote others too, you think that big talent = big integrity? Ha! On which planet..?

But it's another bit of fun and I daresay my group will upload some vids..

Just to clarify some of your concerns regarding Voting Down. This is not possible as it is not a 1 to 10 scale. It is one Vote per person via a voting button that immediately becomes disabled once you have voted for that video.

It doesn't matter if you log off and log back on the system has been developed in such a way that it recognises that you have already previously voted for that clip and therefore is still disabled. You can ofcourse vote for as many individual clips as you like.

The site has been created with total integrity. We are looking to reward users like they have never been previously rewarded.

I can also assure you that none of my kids, family, friends, staff or relatives can win the competition.

You might like to visit the site and read our Website Terms of use and T & C's.

Hope you enjoy it and good luck.

PS. The site is literally days old and in Beta. We will be launching publicily on the 30th October, which is when the Voting starts!

Cheers for this Paul, and thanks for letting us know. The Slagg Brothers will be uploading this weekend.

Guys, i can't wait to see your videos, as i'm certainly intrigued by the name.

We hope you love our site, it's taken a lot of blood, sweat, tears, belief and cash to get where we are today!

Good luck and enjoy!

Paul

Yeah it sounds great Paul, The Junk Males will also be uploading vids and the voting system sounds cool.

It's a surprise to find you on the BSG Forum!

Welcome to BSG!

The big money prizes will generate a lot more interest in user generated content, so it will be interesting to see what people vote for.

No problem.
Well, the Clipstar team are trying to follow as many links, posts, blogs etc... to dispell any myths or be there to set the record straight.
So anything you guys wanna know, just ask.

Cheers
Paul
