'Serious' Telly Page 3

I loved Magnum too!

I don't watch many serious shows, but I liked Survivors. I would also like to recommend 'Life', Attenborough at his finest.

Cracker!

If you don't mind old stuff from the '90s.
Best cop/detective drama ever.

O.K. I have added Torchwood, State of Play (looks really good), Dr Who and even though it is homoerotic Life on Mars to the queue.

Being Human has not been released in America yet and I could not find Bodies anywhere on Netflix.

I don't know if Magnum P.I. was released in the UK, but if you have access to it, I would recommend it. It is probably the coolest show ever to be aired, and I think that 'Higgins' played by John Hillerman is the stereotypical highbrow Englishman to most Americans.

Cheeky blighter! We've had the wander that is Magnum Pi for years.

Is there a famous banned episode where Magnum got drunk and sodomised Higgins?

N.B. The Street and Clocking Off were similar but CLocking Off was clearly superior.

Serious 3 of the Street was still brilliant TV. Of a rare stnadard when UK TV drama is better than the US these days.

But there were a few noticably weaker episodes like the Gulf war one. But the one with the drunk with the disabled son was crackerjack.

And American Magnum fans should check out Britain's own island based detective, Bergerac. Worth it for the mighty Charlie Hungerford alone.

And maybe afterwards we could all go for a dance at Heaven.

And if you like that, it's worth checking out Jimmy McGovern's The Lakes, starring John Simm. Great stuff, featuring murder, cuckolding and gang rape on a snooker table.

The Lakes was great. I unfortunately only discovered it in the second series.

What do ya'll got in the way of British drama television series?

You can't get better than the House of Cards trilogy (House of Cards, To Play the King, The Final Cut) from the early 1990s. Riveting and highly entertaining.

You might say that. I couldn't possibly comment.

You should. Only £12 on Amazon now for about 10 hours' worth of top drama.
