I think they are both good in their own ways. This seems more like Terry Nation's novel though.

Quote: Matthew Stott @ December 21 2008, 7:53 PM GMTI used to watch re-runs of the originals on UK Gold about ten years ago and really liked it. I think it was quite different to this take, and there certainly wasn't any of the scientist conspiracy whatever it is sub-plot. I'm really liking this new take, except for the scientist bits, which feel wrong.
You think so? Fits in well for me. They are obviously supposed to have created the virus but for me the 'why?' is a pretty big question which I look forward to seeing answered. Think it gives the show an added element of mystery/intrigue.
I might have a look around to see if I can find the original somewhere on the net.
How is the new Tom different from the old one, btw? I really like his character in this version. It's dodgy, you constantly think he's gonna turn round and stab someone or beat them up and he does these long, blank stares where you have no idea what he's thinking. For me he's the strongest character in the show.

Well that must be a good thing, surely?
I bet the new one looks a little bit better now too
I wonder how the hell they managed to clear such huge areas of people for some of the above shots?

In the original he was played by Mr. Cheeseman from Dad's Army if that helps...
He as a tramp, not a convict, and shifty rather than threatening. And not AT ALL sexy.
Ha! Cheers Timbo. In other words they've changed him beyond recognition! I'd like to see a few of the old ones, but they don't seem to be anywhere.
Just got around to watch the last episode and was surprised that it wasn't wrapped up. I thought it was a one off series, but I take it there will be a second. I was left feeling a bit cheated as I hadn't known.
I've been enjoying Survivors. Yes it's totally unbelievable, and too convenient to be true, but I nearly cried when they put the noose on Patterson Joseph. Philip Rhys is good too, but Matt Beasley is very sexy, especially when suffocating people in fields.
I've not managed managed to see any of series 2 yet. And originally there were three series so they may do the same again.
As I've mentioned the 1970s series was my favourite TV series of all time.
Watching yesterdays episode now. Last weeks was excellent stuff, with a nice surprise at the end.

I'd predicted it a few minutes earlier, but I'm still enjoying the show.
This is finally airing here on BBC America. Can't wait.
TV remakes are usually pants but I've enjoyed this second series, the cast really gel and the last story I saw with the burning of Sarah with the mutant virus was very moving. British Science Fiction has always been good at near future dystopia and there has been a terrific revival in the last few years with this, 28 Days Later and Children of Men.
Not sure about that ropey Day of the Triffids at Christmas though.
Getting to the age where I'm finding Julia Graham very sexy as well
I'm just watching the first series of this on DVD and enjoying it a lot. And Julie Graham used to be a real hottie. She's still not bad.
I do really enjoy this show. But it's not until I'm watching it I remember why. Some of the acting is a bit off, but it's not too distracting to ruin the show. And Paterson Joseph occasionally does a Johnsonism which makes me laugh. But overall is a nice bit of fun from the BBC.
Whoops, sorry Andi, didn't mean to spoil any of it for you.
Just watched this week's episode and nearly cried again, not sure how I'm going to cope next week.
Agree Julia Graham is totally foxy. I see she's going to be in the Bill this year.
