Thanks for all the feedback.
New joke for Stand-up
This joke kinda make me snort a bit(not in an illegal substance sort of way). Not belly laugh stuff but I can see it carrying everything along very nicely, ta.
In short. Twas a good'n
When I perform it live I plan to give it a long pause and then really awkwardly and shamefully comment that it's probably the wrong audience for the joke and that they would prbably need to be South-Central African diplomatic relations-savvy to truly get all the subtleties.
Well I've heard this joke before with different countries. I think the French had the wall and the Englishman filled it with water.
In fact i just googled it and got quite a few hits for it: http://www.igreens.org.uk/more_french_jokes.htm
So I wouldn't do it as its already been done.
it's almost exactly word for word. would suggest you didn't use it mate. you wouldn't want to get accused of just stealing jokes would you.
The point is that it's an old joke. It's a piss take of jokes and old-school 'gag' comedians mixed with new style politically aware comedians.
Well you know the golden rule, if you have to explain the joke...
Its a long joke to be using as a point, best to generate your own humour.
That's satire!
I kind of like the fact that it's so incredibly wordy, just so long as you can pull it off on stage. I also think the fusion of old-school gags and PC humour can be used to create an interesting contrast. Just so long as you don't steer into Bernard Righton territory. I mean, fine for a gag, but not for a whole act...
Nah, this ain't the whole act, it comes in the middle, after I do a 'Men and women are a bit different aren't they?' joke and then I head back into my regular set to do with psychosis. Fun!
Gotta agree with the consensus.
You're a good comedian with the ability to create much stronger gags than this, Stuart. If you use an old joke a lot of people won't see 'beyond' to the point you want to make. They'll either assume the joke is yours and laugh at it, on face value, or turn to their mates and say: "Hey, you said that three weeks ago." Either way, it robs from your talent.
If the people here didn't get the point and the subtle dig, then what chance a gang of pissed up rowdy weekenders? The cons outweigh the pros imo.
