Isn't Two Pints set in some kind of apocalyptic future where laughter is forbidden?
Sitcoms set in the past, or the future. Page 2
Jeeves & Wooster - although perhaps slightly more comedy drama at times.

Maybe an apocalyptic future where laughter is forbidden could yield a hilarious sitcom. People often can't resist laughing when told not to laugh.
No mention yet of Futurama.
Futurama is set in the future (the clue is in the title)
Oh and anything written by Victoria Wood is set in the past (inadvertently or otherwise).

Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy.

I think that that was an alternative present rather than a future setting.
Sorry about that, I'll get myself round to the pedantry dominatrix to be severely punished.

I'd hoped we'd keep ourselves limited to British TV.

Yeah, at first, though they do end up in the past.

I think you're being very loose with the term 'sitcom' there!
Ah, fair enough.
Red Dwarf.
So it's especially rare for sitcoms to be set in the future.
Well it's hard to do 'future'. You need massive budgets (of the kind only a top Hollywood blockbuster can hope to get) to make it plausible to a contemporary audience, let alone a future one. But it's pretty easy to simplify things and create a period piece.
Not really a sitcom, but 'Garth Marenghi's Darkplace'.
'Oh Dr. Beeching!'

On TV, yes.
But it's easy to do on the radio.
