A full blown attack on as many voices as possible! Page 2

LOL! I can do an owl hoot and a cow mooing.

MichaelG, sorry to shit all over your good praise but I've seen live and recorded better impressions than these.

granted there were some good ones in there like Cheif Wiggam, Arnold and some of the more obvious ones (which are known to be easy to do).

Posting this suggests your serious about this, cut out lou and andy impressions it made me cringe when people did it in the first place, nevermind nearly 5 years later.

As others have mentioned your best off compressing your best voices down and practice them to shit, chuck the others there are just some impressions some people can never do (even the pros).

Sorry if I come out all negative but just search for others like Aries Spears, my jaw dropped listening to this guy, some are weak but his Snoop dogg impress and Jay Z are flawless.

Not worries Paul, that's your opinion. :-D The characters you suggest I drop however, are precisely the ones most people tell me to keep (and vice versa), so now I'm totally confused. Hmmm.

To be frank, I'm not serious about pursuing impressions at all. I just enjoy mucking about with my friends and I have a general, non-specific interest in comedy. I find informed opinion - like yours - an interesting gauge as to what other people find funny, so the more feedback I receive the better (providing it's constructive). I suppose there is also an element of showing off too! I know there are better mimics than me out there, but what continually astounds me about comedy is just how subjective it all is, even with impressions, where you'd expect there to be a greater consensus on what is good and bad; I suppose in that respect, humour is like many other areas of art.

I also agree with you about certain impressions being almost impossible – even for the pros. I watched Rory Bremnar the other night and as great as he is, I imagined how a lot of those impressions would sound if he were just sat at a desk wearing a woolly hat. Some do sound very much like, well, Rory himself. Despite that, I think he is probably the best around.

I checked that impersonator out and he was great, but the rap based style just doesn't appeal to me. If you are a big rap fan, I'd imagine it to be hilarious.

Thanks for your comments!

No probs Michael, I'm glad you took it in the right way.

As for it being subjective working in this forum has shown me that in almost every peice there will and are different views.

Anyhoo good luck with the rest of your work and welcome to the boards!

Not sure you can count Stephen Baldwin and David Brent, mate!

Exactly the same no doubt.

I can do a good Rigsby.

Myyyy God Miiss Jooones!

Have you heard my Basil Fawlty?

"May I ask what you expected to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? The Sydney Opera House, perhaps? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically?"

Of course it would sound better if I wasn't wearing a sarong and woollen slippers.

That's just Kens gift.
If you shut your eyes you can't even read his impressions.

Hi Kenneth, I intentionally used the word sound. My point was about subjectivity and context in comedy. Do you truly believe he would sound the same?

BTW, cool impression of Basil! It was truly like being in front of the original script for Fawlty Towers!

I disagree with almost everything in this post.

Laughing out loud

Love it :)

I brook no quarrel with subjectivity and context. I truly believe that Rory Bremner's impressions would sound the same regardless of what he was wearing and whether or not he was at a desk. His Richie Benaud impression is crap when he's dressed and made-up like Benaud. I can't imagine it would sound any different if he were to wear a tigerskin busby, a scarlet dufflecoat and khaki drill shorts, while seated in a tampon factory.

That squirrel mask conceals a shrink-wrapped 2D comedic shizzle, 3D Platonic mind-matter fizzle. Yo the biz talkin' bizzy noise absolutist fizzle, mixin' that phenomena like yo some Catherine wheel. Maaan respect or upset 'am givin' you due, nuttin' in it for me - just you.

I've noticed it's gone rather quiet on the suggestions front now, I really hope my rap hasn't wrecked everything.

Cheers for all the input, but it's getting to the time where I'm considering a follow-up! I have also taken on board what you have had to say, despite not agreeing with all the feedback. On a more serious note, I think this site is undoubtedly the greatest, straight talking platform for those interested in comedy. Keep up the good work everyone. I'll keep you posted! :-D
