The Persuasionists Page 19

Not good enough to look forward to a long run, perhaps, but good enough to not get dumped like it has been.

Even if the show was taken off after 1 episode the writers/actors still get paid for the whole series - not sure about the production team. Not many jobs can give you that comfort? I watched episodes 1-3 and found nothing to laugh at I'm afraid, so I did give it a chance.

Can't Adam and Joe do their show again please? Teary

When their radio show ended, they weren't at all specific about if or when it would return.

The two-year-old repeat of Grumpy Old Women got 1.5 million viewers - five times more than The Persuasionists in that slot.

Genuinely, The Persuasionists was five times funnier than that tosh.

I'm one of those viewers who watched the first episode and then gave up. Bizarrely, I was more offended by this sitcom then any of the other crapola that's been thrown out on the Beeb of late.

Not because it was bad, it was - all conflict and no charm - but because it featured Iain Lee, Adam Buxton and Simon Farnaby. Three fantistically outstanding talents who are meant to be the rock and roll comedy heroes of our generation. But instead of delivering comedy gold, they just lined up, said their lines and took the BBC cash.

Betrayed is a strong word, so let's just say that I was disappointed by this piss poor excuse for a sitcom.

As for the schedule hopping, I hope the 9 people who genuinely enjoyed the Persuaionists weren't put out too much.

MeeBox was funny.

Unlikely to happen any time soon, what with Joe not only working on 'Tintin' but also in pre-production on his writer-directorial debut, 'Attack The Block'. He'll be a busy boy for a couple of years.

Boo. Angry

But people don't just want to laugh they want to recognise, empathise, sympathise and otherwise share and compare their humanity. A programme like Grumpy Old Women - for all it's cosiness and predictability - allows them to do that.

The Persuasionists is barely out of concept form. I can't imagine anyone identifying with the characters or believing they inhabit the world it portrays.

Did you watch it? It made me furious. Affluent middle-aged celebrities forced to complain inarticulately about the minutiae of subjects in which they have a tenuous understanding and no real interest. I'd sooner watch a hundred episodes of The Persuasionists than another half hour of that insulting shite.

Is it me or is there something ironic here?

Out of curiosity, does anyone know the ratings for last nights episode, 4th Feb?

176,000 or thereabouts, apparently.

No, you're right. It's shite. I'd rather read a book on XHTML, but that's not the point. You and me don't represent a typical BBC Two sitcom audience. Well, you might... :)

Jeez that's a shock, thought I was the only one watching it.

It that some kind of record low for a sitcom's premiere on the BBC?

Also thought the 4th Feb's was probably the worst by far.

I'm glad it's been moved, the BBC are showing some balls for once, if a show does not pull in viewers AND it gets a general slating then relegating it sends a clear message to the prods and commissioners - stop bringing in crap from your usual suppliers and start hunting down and developing new talent that knows what true sitcom is. Couldn't bear much of this but what I did see was really dire and far more concerned with looking trendy or current than simply being funny. This 'cool comedy' fad has to end, it's given us an awful lot of crap in the last 3 or 4 years. And sack the commissioners who seem stuck in a groove when picking what WE have to watch.

Yes, that's exactly what's going to happen.
