No, you're not too old for this type of filming. 
Obviously, not having any sound detracts from the viewing experience massively, is it just this video or is it all You Tube videos you are having trouble with sound wise? This might sound silly, but on You Tube, there is a volume control on the bottom right of the screen, is that working okay?

I only noticed no sound a couple of weeks back when the mike didn't work on my webcam....I thought the webcam was faulty...anyway, I tried playing music last night [CDs] and stuff on YouTube and there's nothing. The control panel 'says' the device [speakers] is working. I've looked at all the sound settings and none are on mute etc. I wonder if new speakers would do it, these are 12 years old!!!
What do you think?
I liked it, FunnyFnarr didn't, but ebony and ivory sit side by side on my piano keyboard so why can't we?

Admittedly, there are some clever videos on You Tube, but they are more the exception then the rule. It's fair to say that the majority of home made stuff on there is absolute cack-o-pants, usually featuring annoying American teenagers telling us about their 'lives' - urgh.
The context of Jane's short film was to create a 3 minute story involving a workplace and I think she did that admirably. It had a 3 act structure, recognisable characters and it wasn't an 'Office' rip off, which I imagine most of the entries to the Reed competition will be.
I don't think funnyfnarr is trolling, just giving out his honest opinion. His opinion is flawed as he doesn't understand how difficult it is to put together a decent film, but it is his opinion nonetheless and he expressed his views without reverting to personal abuse. I found the 'give up' to be incredibly harsh, especially after only a second attempt.
This level of criticism does leave him open to similar comments made about his own work. If he posts a sketch up on here, will others tell him to 'give up' straight away if they find his material not to their liking?

As far as I'm concerned:
Bang on intro by Danny Kirkman - great pace. He's a natural.
Loved this bit. Nice bit of facial comedy acting: (watch it again folks - see what I mean)
"Let me - (ASIDE TO CAMERA) - rephrase that - (TO MARK) - who is you like here at Dream Screens?"
This part was totally unecessary IMO and stood out like a sore thumb:
"Oye! Jonesy - downstairs now! Stop tittin' about with that camera."
- although it might work with a WAY over-the-top performance - as it is though, I think it should be cut.
Overall though, I loved it. The romance reminded me of Dawn and Tim in The Office - not saying you copied it for a second - but to get damn close to emulating it is no mean feat!

Funnyfnarr - I'd rather people said if they didn't like something so I have no problem with your critique in that sense and I've seen you complimentary in other threads. If everyone said everything was great all the time we'd all get lazy and complacent no doubt.
But it's great to get some positive feedback too and I take on board the editing comments from Tim etc. Bushbaby I'd like to know what you think again if you get to hear the sound - I watched previous edits and it really does make a difference when it all comes together with music etc. but possibly the style just isn't for you.

Exactly.
I also agree with those who've made short films in that I think it makes you appreciate the difficulties and restraints with tight deadlines and no budget films (not that that's an excuse) but I'll carry on a while longer as long as I'm invited along for the ride.
Oh and Renegade it's about time you made another one - how about a BCG collaboration?

Yep everyone's opinions are valid, but there's no need to tell someone who did like something that they shouldn't, and vice versa. What's the point in that?

Jane, maybe I think I was a bit harsh when I posted so I apologise for this. I think what I was trying to say is that some people are naturally talented at soem thins [you comedy] than others. Film making is not your thing but as others have it will maybe come in time. Anyway my opinion counts for nothing as I'M the other.

I will post some sketches for you to praise or tear apart. There is a corrections in the Newsjack rejections folder.
Anyway I think I'll leave here for a while until the dust settles. Also I would liket o apologise in advance to those I may offend in the future. Just appreictae that its honest and not false. Also comedy is also personal so there are audiences for everything I suppose.

Honesty in critique is vital, and like Jane said it can be really helpful. I suppose you have to give critique and opinions just as you would in real life, to someone's face.

I met Natasha who plays Alice at one of Simon and Declan's workshops. We stayed in touch and I saw her in a play soon after. I contacted her first because she's v sweet and I thought would be ideal for the role. I then thought it might be good if she recommended someone she knew as it was an all night shoot in Leicester Square and that worked out really well (I think) as she suggested Dan (who has a beard for a stage play at the mo) and he knew Mike who did the intro etc. Dan and Mike met while working at a cinema so it all fitted in nicely and it did help the atmosphere and made it easier for them travelling together killing time in between shots etc. Plus I think they all did a great job!
I have found those workshops good for meeting actors - I have a few contact details now who I'd happily get in touch with or recommend for projects like this.
We spent about £150 in total on the film/ batteries/ tshirts/ name badges/ logos/ 'thank yous' for the actors and cinema manager/ general food and sweets for filming! Mike J (who made the guest appearance as the manager) made a delicious lasagna which we ate around 3am!
I also had to eat a whole box of popcorn so I could cover up the original cinema logo with our own. It's not all glamour is it?
What sort of budgets have you worked with Dolly? We could have done this cheaper without the food but as it was split between the five of us 'producing' it seemed OK. We were lucky with the venue.

How wrong I was Jane, it's fab with sound too, I shouldn't have judged and the filming technique....zooming etc totally fits.

I didn't really want to view it, but the "controversy" in the thread made me click the link, albeit it thinking it was going to be rubbish. And guess what? I was wrong, a thoroughly enjoyable 3 minutes, really well put together (although when you zoomed in on the ticket I couldn't read what it said, down to the quality of camera I think), and well acted. The ending is brilliant, an empty cinema and they sit next to each other, there's something very simple yet dare I say genius about that. Congratulations on a good piece of work.

I think the best part for us (all being film lovers generally) was the free reign of an empty cinema overnight - great fun.
Maybe I should go for some controversy in the actual film next time.
