Anyone else want to see a sitcom starring Marc P and Cotter as hard drinking detectives? I sure as hell know I would.
You could call it Rock and Chops.

I genuinely didn't realise Justin Lee Collins was a comedian. I assumed he was some sort of amiable runner who had been given some camera time in exchange for going to Starbucks alot.
Kinda like finding out the friendly chatty lady at Kingscross was actually a whore.
Quote: The Giggle-o @ January 24 2010, 10:56 PM GMTOne of his stand up shows is on comedy central quite alot, not sure if you've seen it, where he rubs the microphone making a loud, annoying scraping sound for about 5 minutes, the audience laugh nervously but I'd be pretty peeved if I had paid to see/hear that.
Littlejohn's gravestone, iirc.

At what point in your encounter did you realise?

Ah yes, that's what it was.

When she asked if I wanted to pay for sex.
Upto that point I thought she was just shy about asking for directions.
Quote: AngieBaby @ January 24 2010, 10:25 PM GMTI've got to come clean, I really don't like Stewart Lee. I know that makes me a comedy cretin, but I can't stand the way he overdoes things.
Repeating the same word over and over again. I don't find it funny. I think it's just lazy, and he's wasting 10 minutes of his 30 minute set saying the same thing again and again. If I said the same thing over and over again, you'd get me committed, but Stewart is a comedy 'genius'.
You can see who we 'hate' in the results of the comedy.co.uk awards!
(Stewart Lee isn't one of them.)
We don't care enough about him at all.
Yeah, yeah that's why he was in the running for editor's choice.
*sticks tongue out*
Quote: Marc P @ January 24 2010, 10:59 PM GMTWell you've seen him on the TV, doing that kind of comedy rap thing on the TV, he says a phrase and then he repeats it on the TV, you've seen it, it's like they do it with music on the mtv, you've seen it, it's like money for nothing and the laughs are free. You've seen it... but he notices it, and he writes it and he performs it . You've seen it!
The Stewart Lee thing is a topic for the Stewart Lee thread, no?
I'm not really offended by anyone and tend to listen to most. However, continuing my one-man crusade, the 'comedian' I like least is Leigh Francis.

It wasn't included in any category, and then near the bottom of the 'here are all the comedies of the year' list. Surely that skews the results in some ways (not just for Comedy Vehicle but also other stuff that people might need reminding about).
Why was there no Stand-up Show Award or equivalent? With Live At The Apollo, Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow, Stew and even Mock The Week would qualify, there's not a lack of candidates. In fact, if there's so much 'not-quite-in-any-other-category' stuff that doesn't qualify for something, shouldn't there be a more generic category rather than just leaving it to fight amongst everything in comedy?
That said, there is an argument for including Comedy Vehicle in the sketch show lists, but I am, admittedly, completely biased.

Mock The Week is a panel show, first and foremost. The Thick Of It could be classed as satire, but you wouldn't expect to see it anywhere other than a sitcom category, would you? So that leaves something in the region of 3 or 4 candidates. With Beyond A Joke, the various shows over Christmas, and the Radio 2 Comedy Greats series, we've more justification for a 'Best Comedy Documentary' award.

Mark and I have been discussing this just this afternoon. We'll be re-assessing the categories in December.

And you smell of the bin of a burger van the morning after the fayre closed!
