Is some of this anti-Stewart Lee sentiment on this thread and throught the pages some sort of pseudo-intellectual "in-joke" that, as a newcomer, I'm just not 'getting'?
There's been a few mentions of him on the 'Comedians You Hate' thread, as well as some negativity on this one.

Like any comedian, some people don't like him. There's not a lot more to it than that. (I like him a lot)

Understood, but I'm genuinely taken aback that there are people on this particular forum who don't like Stewart Lee.
Comedy is, generally, a forward thinking art-form, and this site and forum seems to be aimed at a younger, more dynamic comedy fan who would aprreciate Stewart Lee.
I could imagine he'd get a lot of hate on, say, Daily Mail comments board if he was to make a joke about.... I dunno, Richard Hammond http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1209921/What-prompted-comedians-tirade-old-schoolmate-Richard-Hammond.html#comments .
