I agree with Godot it had an unlikeable sort of smugness and meanness.

Simon Day has the ability to completely steal scenes one moment and be stiff and unconvincing the next. He used to steal scenes in Swiss Tony all the time.

I guess People Like Us did a similar thing, but just concentrated on a limited number of characters. I think the most succesful of the spoof documentaries looking at ordinary people was That Peter Kay Thing.
