Tommy Trinder Channel 4 Poll Campaign Page 2

What has Rob Rouse done? He seems to be somewhat more hated here than Hitler.

Ross Noble has launched a campaing via Twitter to get Tommy Trinder top of Channel 4's "100 Greatest Stand-ups" poll.

Noble said in regards to the poll on Twitter: "Tommy trinder was a top act and would be funny to have an act from 50s top list. Last time I was ahead Lenny Bruce so it's bollocks anyway."

The campaign has got backing from other comedians and writers, including Alan Davies, Jason Manford, Rob Rouse and Simon Donald. Donald has also launched a Facebook group to get Trinder to the top, which you can join here.

I think this is something that the BCG should give its full backing to just to wind-up Channel 4. I've written to Mark saying that we should.

The best thing is that you can vote as many times as you like on this poll, which is here. It closes on 29th January.

Ian, you're making a mockery of the noble tradition of poll shows. I for one don't want to see this noble genre degraded and will have nothing to do with it.

Not really, Rouse only came 16th in Channel 4's 'Top 50 Most Hated People On The BCG' poll, whereas Hitler came 11th.

Laughing out loud

I think it's a little unfair/incorrect to lump Sadowitz in with all those 'blue' comics.

I suppose your right on that score. I just threw it in for interest.

I think that having being dead for 20 years, Trinder probably wouldn't benefit from the exposure quite as much as some comics who are still alive. Just a thought.

That is true, but what harm could a little retrospective do?

Oh, now see, if 'The Rouse' is throwing his weight behind this campaign, then one can start to take it seriously... Cool

Yes, what is the big thing with Rouse?

Then I can only apologise. Pleased

Having looked at the Channel 4 voting list, it's clearly a load of old bollocks. For example, Shappi Khorsandi and Chris Addison on the list? No offence, I like them both, but they're a long, long way from "great" and have only been around about five minutes in terms of a proper career that one can assess.

I saw Chris Addison way back at uni, so about 13/14 years ago now, in fairness to his stand-up career. He has been doing it at least that long, so I think you're being a bit unfair on him.

Given that the likes of Tim Minchin, Richard Herring, Rich Hall, Lucy Porter are missing, I think the voting'll be quite skewed anyway, no?

Is Chic Murray on the list? He was brilliant and little-known these days.

I only really remember him for his infamous hogmanay appearance when he walked out in front of camera to do his spot and was so drunk he clearly had no idea where he was or what was expected from him. It was the highlight of the new year celebrations.

I think Chick Murray was included as I remember a clip of him talking about his problems with the London tube after reading a sign warning passengers they are only allowed onto the underground with a guide dog.

"Where was I supposed to get a guide dog that time of night?"

Yes, yes, of course I am, he's clearly one of the greatest stand-ups of all time. Rolling eyes ;)

Having said that, they were quite happy to seriously recognise Top Gear as the greatest TV show of the noughties.

That's a joke right?

I do remember him being featured in the "Comedians Comedian" poll that was also done by Channel 4. One of the main aspects of Murray's act was that he would go into extreme detail over everything. For example he would say things like, "I went for a walk the other day, one foot in front of the other, I found it works," and "I turned the handle to open the door. There was another handle on the other side, I don't why. You can never use it, you have to put your hand around the door."

I just watched 60 seconds of Rob Rouse for the first time.

He must die, but first he should suffer and his grave should be lost on unconsecrated land.

He is a plague, a waste product and an AIDs monkey.

I also hate his duck.

The news is now on Chortle.
