Tommy Trinder Channel 4 Poll Campaign

Ross Noble has launched a campaing via Twitter to get Tommy Trinder top of Channel 4's "100 Greatest Stand-ups" poll.

Noble said in regards to the poll on Twitter: "Tommy trinder was a top act and would be funny to have an act from 50s top list. Last time I was ahead Lenny Bruce so it's bollocks anyway."

The campaign has got backing from other comedians and writers, including Alan Davies, Jason Manford, Rob Rouse and Simon Donald. Donald has also launched a Facebook group to get Trinder to the top, which you can join here.

I think this is something that the BCG should give its full backing to just to wind-up Channel 4. I've written to Mark saying that we should.

The best thing is that you can vote as many times as you like on this poll, which is here. It closes on 29th January.

If he won, wouldn't Channel Four just ignore the result as it was obviously just a piss take?

Having said that, they were quite happy to seriously recognise Top Gear as the greatest TV show of the noughties.

Classic bloody telly!

As real comedy fans shouldn't we be using our vote on great stand-ups that might otherwise be overlooked?

Of course the poll is ultimately meaningless, but if half the voters think it will be hilariously ironic to vote for Trinder then the other half will vote for Jim Davidson.

Wouldn't it be better to vote for one of the little known but brilliant stand-ups around and thus give them a bit of much-needed TV exposure?

Let's ignore the brilliant part and all vote for Bussell.

I just looked and he's not on the list! Scandalous!!

Never 'eard of 'im.

You could argue that Trinder is in need of more TV exposure. How many people from the younger generations have heard of him for example? The last time they did was during the last poll.

In regards to Davidson, I seem to remember that all of those "blue" comedians where all close to each other. Bernard Manning was 29th, Roy "Chubby" Brown 33rd, Jim Davidson 37th and Andrew Dice Clay 38th (Jerry Sadowitz however, was 15th).

Having looked at the Channel 4 voting list, it's clearly a load of old bollocks. For example, Shappi Khorsandi and Chris Addison on the list? No offence, I like them both, but they're a long, long way from "great" and have only been around about five minutes in terms of a proper career that one can assess.

C4 has no reason for doing this other than to find an excuse to commission a cheap 3 hours of generic TV List Programme. Oh yes, I see through their little scheme... Smarmy

Is Chic Murray on the list? He was brilliant and little-known these days.

I think it's a little unfair/incorrect to lump Sadowitz in with all those 'blue' comics.

I think that having being dead for 20 years, Trinder probably wouldn't benefit from the exposure quite as much as some comics who are still alive. Just a thought.

And a good thought to boot.

Agreed.

You want to f**k with people's heads? Vote for Bernard Manning or Barrack Obama.

Oh, now see, if 'The Rouse' is throwing his weight behind this campaign, then one can start to take it seriously... Cool
