I once watched that with a couple of people who'd never heard of it, the reaction when it suddenly, from nowhere, turned into a vampire film was quite something to behold.

Quote: Griff @ January 16 2010, 3:48 PM GMTOh come on it is pure theatre. All those long arguments in the warehouse while Mr.Orange bleeds to death.
I agree, it's a great idea. Why not jump on and start adapting it?
Quote: Griff @ January 16 2010, 3:49 PM GMTThe first half of From Dusk Till Dawn is fantastic. I assume that's the half Tarantino wrote, although I don't know for definite. The second half is really lame. Once Salma Hayek's done her dance and everyone turns vamp you might as well switch off.
He wrote the whole thing, he did it specifically because of the second half. A special effects house wanted a flick to work on, if I remember rightly.
Quote: sootyj @ January 16 2010, 3:43 PM GMTBecause it's the script that kicks ass.
It is great, better than some actual "Tarantino films".

I love True Romance, though wonder what kind of film we'd have got had Tarantino actually made it himself, with his original script and vision intact.

I've heard this mentioned around here a few times before. I'm not sure I geddit? Sure it starts off great and the twist is pretty darn weird. But, honestly I still enjoyed it. But then again, I do occasional enjoy the odd vampire/mythical creature flick.

The first 10 minutes is as good as anything he's made.
The first half is pretty good, the stuff with vampires is shit.
I like the whole film; I enjoy a bit of schlock.
I'll admit. I'd like to see a prequel-esque film with the Gecko Brothers, no vampires. I'm sure it was rumoured to happen, not sure if it did in some form though?

Can't be bothered to take out the s..h...l
am I losing my mojo?

It didn't, no.
Quote: Griff @ January 16 2010, 3:57 PM GMTThe whole vibe of the movie was spoiled for me in the second half. The first half was genuinely menacing and creepy, with some interesting character stuff happening with Clooney, Tarantino, Harvey Keitel and Juliet Lewis. The second half threw that all away and became a lame not-very-interesting-or-funny horror spoof.
Fair enough. I was quite young when I saw it, I don't think I gave it much thought and have just accepted it.
I love vampire films too, but I would have preferred it as two separate films to be honest. The first half starts out like a typically awesome Tarantino film. Violent, psychological and funny, with all the cool George Clooney blowy uppy stuff and then Quentin being weird and obsessing about Juliette Lewis.
And then all that goes away and it's just fighting vampires, which is great, but I still want to see the rest of the film I thought I was getting.
The sherrif's discussion about the grill chef with down's syndrome is just pure mojo bad ass hilarity.
I timed it 10 minutes 3 seconds right upto the point Clooney calls the hotelier a mean old bastard it's pure class.
*edit*
Oh, or what everyone else has already just said.
