Depends what part of what line(s) you're on. 55% of the 'Underground' is actually above the surface, so it's not quite as hot or stale then.

I know. South of the river is better.
We have better (and far more expensive) main line trains, but poorer Tube coverage.

In central London it's often quicker to walk directly which you'd never guess from the Tube Map.
Plus you get to appreciate the often gorgeous architecture.
