Next time you correct my spelling, I will use the exact same argument to prove you are wrong.
It's a fun thread.... applicable to lots of things - e.g. Rennaissance Paintings versus Piles of Horse Crap in the Tate Modern... both art?
Remember, Johnny Knoxville was injured filming Jackass 2 - as he tried to re-create the famous Buster Keaton stunt from his 1928 movie "Steamboat Bill" where the wall falls down and the actor is unharmed due to the window opening falling exactly in the right place....
I think you can make the case that Jackass is a natural post-modern evolution of Slapstick - Like it or not, Jackass and Slapstick are related.

From Dictionary.com -
broad comedy characterized by boisterous action, as the throwing of pies in actors' faces, mugging, and obvious farcical situations and jokes.
From Oxford English Dictionary -
comedy based on deliberately clumsy actions and humourously embarrassing events.
Though to be fair to you Griff, the secondary answers involved a stick used to make a slapping noise on stage.

Thank you Blobster, I whole heartedly concur.
JackAss 2.5 made me laugh alot. We have no idea how much stuff is prepped and planned and how much is random. That's the genius and in fairness it is the genius of Jackass, if you think it's random stuff filmed randomly then you probably wander why Terry didn't do more with his retirement or why the Goods didn't have a proper irrigation system.
SteveO vomiting because Ryan Ancona shat in his fart helmet maybe the comedic equivalent of the Mona Lisa.

Well, I think both sides of the argument could use those definitions really. But, you know, who really cares anyhoo?

You just used the word genius twice whilst talking about Jackass. Good God.

Well, I was getting you a print of the old classic for next Christmas, but I may have to revise my plans. I'm sure SlagB has a masterpiece in him.

(warning not for the faint hearted)
The finest scene in recent comedy history. I'd love to see this scene done with Miranda Hart and Piers Morgan.

Pfffffffffff.
Hah Matt just farted on line. Better put a Stotter in your botter.
Back on subject this show was a harmless bit of filler made to fill the TV hours for not much. What do you want a higher license fee? The music was nice and any excuse to see Laurel and Hardy can't be all bad.
I may just buy the Laurel and Hardy DVDs. The show got their depression era dark sensibility down pat. But I don't think it said much about the Marx brothers (their descendants must have better lawyers).
You must Soots, for 29 quid the 21 Disc L+H box set contains most of the Hal Roach and nearly - if not - all the famous output and is monumental value. And the prints have been restored so they look better than the reruns on TV used to look. But get the bigger box set as the micro one is apparently more finnicky.
And all but a small handful are provided in a colourised version as well. Great, great value.

Rules don't have to be slavishly obeyed. For example with sitcom the main two is that it should be a fixed set of characters who never learn and always end up in the same situation each week. But Gavin and Stacy, Red Dwarf etc all broke those rules.
'Twas nice to see the great Jacques Tati get a mention (albeit a very brief one) in this. Did my dissertation on him. A true genius (Tati, not me....yet).
Any other Tati fans out there?
