Doctor Who... Page 359

Any chance of them ripping off a well written show with a plot that makes sense?

Veddy droll.

It was entertaining but kinda weak and inconsistent.

Too much squashed in a small place and yet another billionaire with a private army. Plus make your minds up about Wilf already.

And the we dumped a super space healing mass direction type weapon was just moronic.

The story as ever has no centre. And what happened to all that Time Lord triumphant stuff?

Serious question, or joke?

It was, well; it wasn't very good, was it. Overall. Some lovely little creepy bits, then just so much silliness. The green aliens. Puh. I know it's for kids too, but come on, they were so horribly jarring. What did the Obama bits have to do with anything? And the ending, with everyone turning into the Master, just made me sort of squirm. It was such a scatter of bits, not at all a satisfying hour in its own right; here's hoping Tennants final hour gives him the send off he deserves. I wasn't completely dissapointed, but this is the Tenth Doctors final story, it should be better!!

I have to agree with all of this, Matthew. The whole "Master-race" was almost or as cringworthy as "Jesus Doctor" and "Giant Cybermen stomping over London."

Horay for Timothy Dalton though and the whole scene of Wilf & The Doctor in the cafe.

I had it on in the background and it seemed rather messy.

I liked the Timelord's outfits though.

Him being a Timelord was kind of cool, I agree. I'm really hopeful this all pulls together into something great in the second episode. Somehow.

Only if we see Billie Piper getting busy with the 'hand of Omega'.

I have to agree with all of you about the Master race and Obama - they were a bit over the top. But I liked the episode and the cliffhanger was great! Part Two looks epic.

How about if all the old Bond actors are Timelords? Roger Moore as the Vlayard? And Sean Connery as Romana in drag?

There is no reset button in Part Two, apparently. :)

I rewatched the episode this afternoon. The Master race thing is actually brilliant as that's exactly what the Master would do. Something utterly mad and completely bonkers! The Obama bits were stupid, though. Couldn't they just invent another prime minister of Britain and use him / her?

I did like it but funny aliens? Super duper pooper scooper alien device just lying around? All this stuff kills all tension stone dead and makes it drag. It's like the show is embarassed of ever taking it's self seriously. It's more like individual really good bits in an over all flawed concept.

Well, I think I must have been watching a different programme to some of you - it was a contender for worst episode of new Who in my book. Almost none of it made any sense at all. They spent ten minutes on an unconvincing reason why the Master could come back to life, to follow it up instantly with an equally unconvincing hocus-pocus of how he's dead again, followed by him running away. So why bother with the first bit? Then - depending on RTD's mood - it became important for the Doctor to chase the Master, or not. And for the Master to run away... um, sometimes. And don't get me started on magic powers of spraying energy from his hands and shooting up into the air. Even if it makes sense for him to be 'magic', he could do that any time so why the hell was he running? And it was imperative for the Doctor to chase and catch him until - well, until some OAPs turned up and it became more important to pose for photographs.

And my, what a master plan by the Master - he got himself kidnapped by people who just happened to have a machine he could use to turn into John bleeding Malkovich. Pretty convenient. How long has he been planning that one?

All the recession and Obama stuff was just cringeworthy. And worst of all given the hype, it had no connection at all with the Doctor's mental state at the end of the previous episode.

In summary, it was bollocks.

I will be watching the finale though - looking forward to seeing the new Doctor and putting this debacle behind us.

I haven't seen this yet.

What else haven't you seen?

It was pretty bad. The flying Master with the lazer bolt hands. :( The way The Master was brought back. :( The rich people with the 'found' alien machine. :( Getting sick of seeing Tennant run whilst grimacing. :( The fact that even the reveal of all those Timelords at the end didn't excite me at all somehow. (Though I did enjoy Timothy Daltons spitty mouth) :( Obama. :( The seemingly endless shots of The people having turned into The Master. :( The green aliens on holiday from The Sarah Jane Adventures. :(

On the plus side, almost every bit with Wilf, the fact The Doctor heard the drumming in The Masters head, that wonderful scene in the cafe. But that's pretty slim pickings in sixty minutes!

At the very least, the next episode must be better!

Thank's Matt, forgot about Dalton's flob-a-thon speech, that was great. Reminded me of that episode of Friends with Gary Oldman and Joey -

Ha! It sooo reminded me of that, sign of a great actor if you spit all over the place.
