That Ben, always with the smut!
The Life and Times of Jeremy Spicer Page 7
Quote: Marc P @ December 22 2009, 1:21 PM GMTHow long will it be?
As long as you want it to be.
Quote: Ben @ December 22 2009, 1:22 PM GMTHave you tried writing shorter monologues yourself, James?
Hugh Laurie used to do some very funny ones on A Bit of Fry and Laurie. They may be worth a watch if you haven't seen them.
Yes I have seen the Fry and Laurie monologues. I am writing one at the moment but I'm not going to be in it. I tend to write differently for myself then (EDIT: SLAGA - JAMES it's 'than' . ) I do for others.
James you obviously have a very big ego to post a life size picture of your head on the thread, bumping the thread also as you do it. What do you want from people now? They have given you their opinions, so move on?
I like your ambition, but I didn't enjoy it at all.
Agree with alot of what people have said.
Please, please please can this not turn into a f**king beast of a thread, again!
I'm bored already, and James stop bumping it you bummer.
Kindly

I'm bumping the thread because additional information on the character was provided. I'm not going to move on after about three days. Blimey! What's the point of writing and shooting something to then move on after three days. I explained earlier why I was bumping the thread because we got off track and that was down to me so I thought I'll get it back on track. Excuse me for taking a interest in feedback for my own show. If it's ego to take your career seriously then I've got a massive ego.

No, sorry I was wrong.
You posted a life size picture of your head to further your career, nothing to do with Ego.
Look, I didn't like it, not many others did. Work on something else. It must be hard to take as you have worked really hard to do it, but just because you have worked hard on something, doesn't mean people will love it. That's like me spending an hour on the toilet squeezing one out, and then showing all my family what I've accomplished. They wouldn't be happy.
I like you, and I'm a fan. But let's not turn this into a saga.

Oh. I was going to write a sketch for James where he plays Snorri Snorrison.

Snorri Snorrason
And does he sleep a lot, or send others to sleep?
I don't believe there's nothing left but running here again.

It's called critique not do I like it or not. I'm looking for constructive criticism not just move on and do something else. I took that advice on Back to Class and did this then you telling me to do it again.
The photo was there represent the character it's not my fault is bloody massive. Yes of course I've got a ego, you need one to be a performer. I don't think I should be criticised for being confident.

And a surgeon. You need a God complex to be any good at that game.

I loved the Alec Baldwin speech in that movie!

Yes, Malice! That's what I was thinking of! Great film!

Have you stopped to think that maybe you haven't improved that much in between projects? It won't happen overnight, you know.
There's been plenty of constructive criticism on here. Marc P, in particular, gave you a very thorough breakdown of what a monologue should consist of.
Have you considered performing your work at comedy venues? I think the monologues would lose little in translation from the screen to the stage. It's also the most honest audience you would get.

It was about two to three months between Back to Class and The Life and Times so I know there isn't going to be a dramatic change but this is a different style of comedy and performance to Back to Class.
There has been some good constructive criticism and I thank you all for that but in all fairness I do know how to construct a monologue.

No I haven't. I'm tending now to write monologues and other comedy for other actors. I still want to perform but intill I get some more writers onboard to help me with my characters I will mainly write for others.
My main problem is that it's just too long. I got about 3 minutes in and quit it. I think that's about my limit on user generated clips. I reckon it could have been heavily edited down. If Jezza was a recurring character in 2 minute clips, that would make him more watchable. I'm all for charcter stuff but it still needs to be funny. Oh and agree with people who say you're too young for the role. He's supposed to be an ex-newsnight reporter, yes? He should be in his 50's or something. Why not make him an ex-newsround reporter? That would solve the age issue...
Anyway, just a few thoughts as I take a break from Assassins Creed 2.
