Setting Up A Blog

Morning All,

I've had an idea for a blog it hit me in a WHSmiths of all places!.

But in all honesty I have no idea where to start setting one up, I did post a blog a few years back on myspace which got some followers but died before it could pick up any steam.

Anyone know where to start with a site to post it on?

How do I get readership?

How ofter should I post?

I know a lot of people post blogs on here so go to the source.

Cheers muchly!

You could do worse than trying wordpress.com or blogspot.com. Those sites show you what to do and host it for you and stuff.

You'll get a URL like paulsblog.wordpress.com or paulsblog.blogspot.com.

If you want something a bit cooler sounding, it gets a bit more complicated.

Actually, forget Blogspot. Wordpress is far, far better.

My blog is, at present, published with Blogger. Which is not perfect, but more than adequate and very easy to use.

I'm going to be building my own blogging software soon though, at which point I'll move over from it.

Why reinvent the wheel? Have you had a play with Wordpress? It's very versatile if you're a PHP guy.

Because Aaron likes the challenge.

I use blogger, it does the job and you can modify the templates to change the layout and add Google analytics into it. There's also an XML export if I remember correctly so you can move to wordpress (Or Blogaaron?) at a later date if you want.

How to get a readership? Who knows!? You probably have to network a bit. leave comments on similar blogs, get to know other bloggers and then they will swap links and post links to your articles... probably. I really dunno, according to my web stats I have 7 viewers a week. And I check my site once a day........hey!! wait a minute!!

Blogspot is ace. It's so easy to use my dear friend (and international pirate, space navigator and country rock star) Dr Sardoniucs has managed to set one up. And has been entertaining nobody with his irony, sardonism and poor spelling for months.

Hmm, looks like I have some research to do! I have a feeling my idea has been done before too, but I'll be a cocky twat and say I can do it better than them.

Anyway, yeah research.

And thanks guys I appreciate the replys!

I use Blogspot. Works well enough.

N.B. with Blogspot does anyone check out their neighbouring blogs?

I'm next to an Ontario Bible class, with dodgy refences to discipling couples...

The other one is a jolly family church for smiley Californians.

Blogspot seems to be the winner so far...

Actually my blog is so full of shit I'm moving it to Blogbot.

Go to some Blogger/Blogspot blogs, then go to some Wordpress ones. Figure out which you prefer as a reader. Whichever user experience you decide upon is what you will eventually be inflicting upon your readers.

Me = would never use Blogspot.

Hey guys, I am new to this but check my blog here: http://renfield87.wordpress.com/.
I use wordpress and its simple and brill. Job done.
