UK city of culture

Barnsley?? Isn't that just near Sheffield? That's the only reason I know it exists. Gotta be the Pool or Manc surely.

Ipswich isn't even a city so how can it be a "City of Culture"?

And I say that as someone who is proud to have been born their and supports the "Town".

The County of Cornwall, etc aren't cities either! I nominate my dining room; it has a fireplace which appeared in To The Manor Born, a 1920s fashion print, a framed original cover of Never Mind The Bollocks and lots of books.

That would make you Mistress of Culture?

I think Milton Keynes should enter. :)

An advisory panel will meet to consider the bids in February and will make its recommendation to Culture Secretary Ben Bradshaw.

Mersey Television founder Phil Redmond will chair the panel, which includes the former controller of BBC Northern Ireland, Anna Carragher, and Culture Show presenter Lauren Laverne.

'Nuff said.

"Culture changes people's lives, and has the power to transform cities and economies. This was brilliantly demonstrated by Liverpool last year," said culture minister Margaret Hodge.

But Barnsley? Are they mad? It's one of the most horrible places I've ever been.

They've got Parky. That should destroy their bid from the outset.
