The reasons for the way people act socially and the number of people there are on TV doing things is all socio-political. But peoples' inherent ability to be funny isn't. That's the part I'm talking about.
You've moved the debate to 'the ability to be funny' rather than 'being funny'. Perhaps you're right, maybe all women can be funny and just fewer of them choose to be funny than men.

Before zooo goes off and joins a nunnery can I just point out that I don't think men are funnier than women, it's so ridiculous it doesn't even need debating. Even listing some contemporary stand-ups (Sarah Silverman, Jo Caulfield, Sharon Horgan) kind of seems like protesting too much. I'll just say two words: Joan Rivers, and rest my case. Now go and read some Dorothy Parker or Nancy Mitford.
I thought the original disputed point was that there were more funny men than funny women, not that the men were funnier. I wouldn't argue that.
