Electrical Couple

Hi. I imagine the electical devices to be played by people in costumes.

INT. A BEDROOM. A MALE ELECTRIC PLUG ( DEREK ) AND A FEMALE ELECTRIC PLUG SOCKET ( LOUISE ) ARE GETTING READY FOR AN IMPORTANT NIGHT OUT.

LOUISE:
Where are the invitations Derek?

DEREK IGNORES HER AND DOES UP HIS JACKET.

LOUISE:
Derek?. Where are they?

DEREK:
Yes yes dear. They're over there somewhere. I saw them earlier. Under the electrical catalogue.

LOUISE:
Derek? Why is the catalogue all sticky?

DEREK:
Hmm? what?

LOUISE:
Have you been looking at extension leads?

DEREK:
Of course not. Don't be silly. Just a bit of glue or something. Just put it away.

LOUISE OPENS A DRAWER TO PUT THE CATALOGUE AWAY BUT NOTICES SOMETHING IN THE DRAWER.

LOUISE:
Derek what's this?

SHE SHOWS HIM A PORNOGRAPHIC PLUG SOCKET MAGAZINE.

DEREK:
Darling, I can explain...

LOUISE:

DEREK:
Louise, honestly, I...I mean I would never.

LOUISE:
Is this what you like is it? Two holes? Funny shapes?

SHE PULLS OUT THE CENTRE FOLD. IT IS A PICTURE OF A FOUR GANG PLUG SOCKET
OF FOREIGN ORIGIN.

Is it because I make you wear a circuit breaker?

I like it, it's slightly surreal but then funny as it has a grounding in a real life situation.

I especially like the punchline at the end, although I was wondering if you could get a "butt plug" joke in their somewhere (but perhaps that's just a sign of my diseased mind).

Well done, well written. This is your best honed sketch. Lovely surreality.

If this was YouTubed, I'd 5* it.

I don't have anything to record it on or know anyone to be in it. I know that probably sounds defeatist but I know even less about all that caper than I do most other things. >_< Nice idea though.

All you need is a camera. Make a small set with cardboard walls and doll's bedroom furniture, and use real plugs and sockets. Use sticks to animate them (muppet like) and add the voices at edit or during the filming. If you get the angles right you can lose the sticks that move the sockets, or keep them in if they add (like the Muppets) to the tackiness.

Oh I've seen some of those naughty electrical magazines, they're always full of adverts for extension leads though.

Yeah, I agree with what everyone else said, it's a nice surreal little sketch. I've no doubt you could think up a couple more sketches for the same two characters.

But I would lose these 4 lines:

LOUISE:

As they don't really add anything and are just a weaker version of the main gag - the electrical porn. It feels to me as if this lead (no pun intended!) into the gag dilutes it a bit.

I like it nicely weird building into a solid badumtish punchline.

I laughed, which I suppose is all you need to know when it comes to writing jokes! Great stuff.
