Ugly Betty...? Page 3

From that list only Scrubs is actually good, the rest are viciously overrated for their really bad and predictable jokes.

Can you guys add a category to the BSG awards? Namely Silliest Sweeping Statement. If so, I'll vote for the above.

Ugly Betty was an enjoyable show in the Ali McBeal/Desperate Housewives mode, although it's not really a sitcom.

If anybody wants a butchers at the pilot script: http://www.dailyscript.com/scripts/Ugly-Betty.pdf

At it's peak Friends was brilliantly funny (sorry I had to stick up for it! :) )

Yeah ugly betty is a lot like Ally McBeal which I loved. Not 100% comedy but you need something else for an hour long show. Weird how Britain doesn't make hour long comedies at all. The only thing I can think of are those one-off shows like 'booze cruise'. Which were awful!

I agree with Lenny (sorry, I mean ShoePie). :)

It isn't my favourite US sitcom, but the first few series in particular were very well written and featured excellent performances from the leads. It's one of those shows that is fashionable to bash (presumably because a lot of people liked it - i.e. it wasn't a cult show that you could feel good about liking when not many others felt the same way) but I've been watching repeats of the early years on E4 and it's really sharp, entertaining stuff.

I'd have to agree with it in regards to Seinfeld. Perhaps I'm saying so with hindsight and it wasn't the case at the time of production and first transmission, but I find it pretty predictable - and rather smug and self-assuredly so.

Ugly Betty is good stuff, not my thing but well written and acted. As to whether Americans know comedy or not I think we can safely say they do based on the shows mentioned and many, many others. Aaron, I'm not sure predictable is the right word to use in your Seinfeld point, I mean they are repeats. And we're all writers so we should know what's coming even if we've never seen the show before. It's worth finding out about Milt Josefsberg, David Lloyd and his son Christopher Lloyd two great Frasier writers, Garry Marshall, Carl Reiner, Persky and Danoff just to see the breadth of knowledge, creativity and the work ethic they applied. It's not all about shit and urine, breasts and penises; that's kids' stuff.

True, true. ...However, I've never really been a huge fan of it, so often the episodes I see are new to me. But yes, good point about being writers.

None of those programmes have made me laugh out loud. Except scrubs, which I think is veeery good.

I must say that ugly betty episode 2 is a vast improvement over the pilot.

I wasn't joking about NZ TV either Karl. It's completely ignored here and we're missing out badly.

Hey just to be a big gal, can i just say that i do find Desperate Houeswives funny. It does have its moments. Well done the good ol USA.
I was never a friends fan. Ever. Tho i will not knock it. Its unfair to knock what you have only briefly tried.
I watched the 2nd part of Ugly Betty tonight. E4 i think.
Just the one giggle, but a good drama. Guess where i will be 9pm next week.

On my perfectly pert arse watching part 3.(as long as it doesnt clash with my Desperate Housewives)

Charley, please stop mentioning your lovely arse. I have a girl friend but am falling in love with your arse, that I have never seen.

Sorry Ginger Jesus. I have to mention all the great things about me, rather than all the bad.
I will try no to mention how firm, pert and squeezable an arse i have in future.
However if you do catch a glimpse of a perfect formed, swinging arse about town, just bear in mind that miine is 100 times better. lol

I watched the second episode last night and I gotta say that this programme is really doing it for me now which is good as it takes my mind of Charley's arse which, I am sure, is truly something beautiful to behold.

Hahahahaha!

I liked that Baumski....

I liked that very much.

Charlie, your arse aside, has peace actually broken out?
