Rising Damp had a limited number of locations. And although not a sitcom, Cube took place in a giant cube.
Single location sitcoms Page 2
Producers, etc will tell you to cut right down on locations to save money, etc.
Producers, etc will tell you to add more locations because it'll get too boring in one place.
I wonder what the perfect number of scene locations is...?
Quote: Griff @ December 2 2009, 11:42 AM GMTI guess it depends whether you're writing single-camera or audience sitcom. Audience sitcom = 2 or 3 sets, Single-camera = much more freedom?
It probably depends more on the quality of the writing and acting. You can have all the exciting locations you want, but if the writing's dreary and predictable, it's dull as ditchwater.

Russel T. Davies? Exciting locations? Everything is in either London, Cardiff or a space station orbiting the Earth.

Bottom was mostly set in a single location - the kitchen/lounge combo room of their flat.
Although the funniest episode IMHO is the one where they're on a big wheel.

Is that the one in the prison? Really good that one.
The Vist and Smoking Room? just 2? The World of Pub jumped into my mind, but they defiantly go outside at least once.
Marion and Geoff, awesome as it might be, I don't think counts. If an unmodified mid-sized car is a 'set' then surely the outside surroundings are as well... and they do constantly change.

I was just going to say this. I think my three favourite episodes of Bottom - 'S Out, Culture and Hole - were shot on a single, tiny set.
The set of Hole must win some kind of 'Smallest set in a British sitcom' award, it was about 5ft by 3ft.
And in fact my least favourite episodes - Dough and Finger - probably have the most sets of all the episodes.
Duty Free? As far as I can recall, you only ever saw David, Amy, Linda etc in Spain.

You only ever saw Basil Fawlty in England.
I know the thread said recent and implied, maybe, series but could I throw in one episode of a sitcom that more or less defined single location?
The Bedsitter - Hancock.

Or 'The Radio Ham'?
