Cheers, Griff. Good info. The Soho Theatre's pretty good for new writing as well.
Bush Theatre
The Bush Theatre can stuff off, I nearly had to punch some little squirt there who savaged my script while making loads of grammatical errors doing so. Amateurs.

Perhaps they were making an ironic comment about your script? And if it was free feedback, you've got no reason to complain. If you paid, that's a different matter.
No, I was in some workshop thing using their actors and a 'reader' who couldn't write. This was still in the 90s and they seemed to have a lot of 'keen but clueless' folk running it then - drama school grads - It may well have changed now to a more professional setup but I don't care.
Have you worked with them Griff?
Cool. The website is about submitting plays, I can't find anything about their current or past productions - am I missing something?

You don't really want us to answer that.
Quote: Griff @ December 2 2009, 12:36 PM GMTTheir main website is http://www.bushtheatre.co.uk/
Ah, got it. I was wondering what sort of plays they specialise in.
The thing with theatre is you can spend an awful lot of time getting nowhere. My God, do theatre producers um and ah about things. Haven't got time for that anymore.
Quote: Griff @ December 2 2009, 12:41 PM GMTI think they are open to a bit more variety than (say) the Soho, who very clearly want "message" plays.
Variety you say? *gets together a juggler, magician, tap dancer and farmer asking the weight of his cow.*
(Gold star to anyone who gets the last reference.)

Steady. My work's been at the Soho theatre.

Again this was my very brief flirtation with them in the 90s but at the time they were keen on Godber and Cartwright type things, but then in truth a lot of fringe theatres were then.
If IRC it was from one of Spike Milligan's autobiographers; there was a variety act in the 40s which was just a farmer bringing his cow on stage and asking the audience to guess the weight. I don't know why, but that always made me laugh.
Quote: Griff @ December 2 2009, 12:45 PM GMTWhat did you have on?
Actually it had nothing to do with the Soho theatre. It was a BBC thing and they just used it as a venue. Nice place, though. And, having sent plays to them, they give good feedback.

I've seen some comedy gigs there - yep nice theatre.
