Depressing News for Writers
Yeah, cheers Dan.
F**k you Dan. F**k you and your bad news right in the face.
what a surprise
Is it not the case that, with the exception of Two Pints, no sitcom has ever been made from an unsolicited script, by anyone, ever?

Two Pints was commissioned after she won a competition

Yeah -- but there's no need to keep 'conveniently' reminding us to f**k off.
And I used to like Talkabout too...

It's been so long since I was f**ked in the face, I'm beginning to worry my face virginity is growing back...
Dan
The bloke who wrote The Smoking Room went to the same school as me.
Quote: Griff @ November 30 2009, 1:46 PM GMTI might be wrong here but I thought The Smoking Room was picked out of the Writersroom slush pile? (The more I think about this, the less I think I'm right about it.)
You are right about it.
I think.
I'm pretty sure it's true nothing has ever been made from an unsolicited script. The advice given at this talk seems pretty sound to me: networking in this industry has never done anyone any harm. Except when I told the Mighty Boosh director I preferred it on the radio. That probably set me back 5 years.
Depressing article, indeed. But hardly breaking news, is it?
Brian Dooley was an established writer who had had plays on Radio 4 before (albeit with a good gap between those and Smoking Room). He also went to Cambridge, and although he wasn't in Footlights I'm sure he had some good connections. Sounds like his success was deserved but he was probably networking his ass off too.

Each to their own, but can we get back to the debate please.
Talent will always find a way.
Surely.
I think James Corden and Ruth Jones sent an unsolicited treatment to Stuart Murphy, and that worked out quite well.
