Blackpool takes you back to the 80s.

London takes you to a bleak inhospitable future filled with alienation.

Yeah, good innit!

Does anyone know if there are places in England where they replicate particular periods in history? I don't mean like theme parks, I mean kind of educational places where you just look around.

I've been here a couple of times and think it's very good;

There's also a stone age recreation museum in Sussex, I think too.

The Victorian farm that on a BBC series of the same name is also open to the public. You can even stay in the properties.

I wish to find a pubic on the Victorian farm.

Well, there's Blists Hill museum in Iron Bridge. Very near me. Replicating the Victorian experience.

Will there be killers, mad surgeons and stacks of Opium?

Wow, thank you both very much, seems there's quite a few things out there.

Dolly, the little picture on that website looks lovely. I can't find anything on that stone age museum though but I'll have another look.

Chip, just Googled Blists Hill - looks awesome, absolutely perfect.

Thanks again everyone for your help.

Are these places open all year round then?

You won't. They didn't have computers in the Stone Age.

I'm assuming they open for a few weeks here and there. I'm not in a hurry anyway, just as long as I know about them.

It has to be seen to be believed. I'm going to have to have a look around for it, so I can get it word for word, but as far as I remember - for the 'how to speak to the disabled' bit, it said something like 'Come down to there level. Make sure you do not bring attention to their disability'. I found it really offensive

Why?

Like ... pretty much everywhere with the remotest modicum of history?

You should go to Dickens World. Cool

The whole of Wales replicates Britain as it was about 50 years ago.

:D

(You still have coal mines? ;))

I endorse this.

Some. Most are the typical Spring to mid-Autumn season, as National Trust properties. Places like Blists Hill and similar 'living villages', are about 80% outdoors and mud though, so you wouldn't want to go there after late September even if they are open.

Yeah, basically anywhere that's like a town or village or whatever based on some point in the past.

Thanks for Dickens World, looks awesome, but I think it's a theme park :(

Thank you, Loopey! Again, looks really good. Blimey it's gonna take me years to get round all these places, lol - you're right, there's quite a few! I've got a nice little list now.
