Cast Offs Page 2

No, I enjoyed it too. There's some really good characters developing; The young guy's dad was very well-observed. I think it would have lost something if it had gone for more obvious gags.

I think some of the humour might be more evident to people who can identify with the cast. After spending the summer with Mr Dagger in a wheelchair we found some poignant comedy in Dan and his chair.

Caught this tonight and I must say, I thought it was bloody good. The actor playing Tom is particularly brilliant.

This kind of thing could have gone either way - super schlmatzy or uber offensive but I thought it trod a very fine, funny and tasteful line.

Liked it.

I only saw minutes and sort of lost interest but if RC(Elvise's fave brand of cola) says it's good I'll try again.

Glad I'm not the only one - thanks Dolly and RC! I agree the father was played well in Ep 1.

It is a subject that could easily be oversentimental/ patronising/ soapboxy, but they seem to have got a fair balance.

Sooty it's none of your instant gratification. But I think it's one that if you give it a chance you could find rewarding.

I'd have preferred them to show it weekly though - I'm not sure I'll be able to watch every night so will record and catch up later.

I wonder if they did that to mirror actual reality shows? But the difference is those shows are quite lightweight and you can dip in and out while this one needs more attention!

:)

I didn't realise it was nightly. I only recorded the first one and haven't watched it yet. Oh well.

It's not meant to be funny!!!!

Sorry I guess this must all be a bit more novel to other people.

It's advertised as being 'darkly comic' by Ch 4 and one of the writers, Jack Thorne says 'We're a filthy, FUNNY, different TV show and I hope you give us a chance, because I think you'll like what you see.'

Every day life for everyone is funny. :)

I've seen interviews with the cast and they definitely saw it as having comic elements.

Nor did I! Not that I was going to go back, but I certainly can't now. I don't recall them saying so at the end of the first episode.

Well there is always 4OD if you DO want to watch it. I think it's on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, not every night.
